View Full Version : Do we need to push the clutch to start our cars?

Today I accidentally started the car without stepping on the clutch, it still started. I was wondering if we have to push the clutch down to start it? I couldn't start my old EG without pushing the clutch down to the floor before.

By the way, I have installed an alarm system, does it matter?

Thanks in advance.

You need to push the clutch to start our cars. Maybe your alarm. With some alarms. you can possibly bypass clutch for engine starter,

if you have auto start on your alarm.... you have to leave car in neutral... otherwise yes... like 99.99999999999% of the standard trans. car in the world.

If your car starts without the clutch pedal being pressed you have a problem. Take it to the dealer and have them check it out.

The clutch pedal has a sensor, it may be bad or it may be disconnected.

So my car has problem?

Or was it because of the alarm installed?

I have installed the above one, but I didn't install the auto-start module.

So you guys think I should go to the dealership to make them check it out? Is there any problem if I just keep it like this?

Thanks for your replies.

I'd say let the dealership check it out. Did you ever attempt to start the car without the clutch before the installation of the alarm?

Does this pager alarm work in high traffic and building areas? Yes, you need to step on clutch pedal in order to start our cars. The guy who installed the alarm probably by passed it.

Dont take it to the dealership. The "problem" is your alarm. Take it back to your alarm installer and have them fix it for you if they can without messing up your pager. The dealership is gonna take one look at the wiring for the alarm and blame it. Then if they are like most dealerships they will try to charge you a diagnosis fee.

Always go back to the last place that worked on your car first.
