has this been done?

id imagine a better breathing and higher revving head + the low compression a3 bottom end would make a pretty decent turbo setup

hmmm....the possibilities

Wouldnt you want the oil cooler off the A2 block? And low compression pistons can always be swapped in. I'd just go with a straight A2 and save myself the headache.

y? the a2 head is a direct bolt in and the ecu raises revs with none of the standard problems, itd be cheaper than low compression pistons id think. im wondering if the a2 head would flow better to complement an a3 block

I agree with you totally. My only point was that A3 and A2 blocks arent the same. The A2 has an oil cooler, so for turbo I would think that you would want that too. So rather than go through the trouble of building a frankenstein engine, why not just go straight A2, have the benefits of the oil cooler, and buy a couple $100 pistons?

i wasnt aware that you could buy pistons for an a2 block that lower the compression to 9.8

Oh dang I have no idea there bro, sorry. I think cybernation has
low-compression pistons, because they include them in stage II turbo kits, but I have no idea what they lower the compression to. Sorry man.

see thats my point. its hard to come by low compression aftermarket setup. so the theoretical swap is:
700$for an a2 head and ecu
4000$ for revhard kit

where did you get $700 for an a2 head?
That seems to low for an a2 head
I thought $1000 was a low ass price for that head

I second the A@ block theory. Its made to be revved harder than the a3, different crank lighter stronger rods.

spend the time swaping pistons into an a2 block instead of swapping head on the a3.
check out the Top Secret dc5.

Dang where can I get one of those engines? :D

Very badass car.

if u want an a block u gotta pay attention to the importers.. over in japan, they send motors over here all the time..

yea i believe you may be right about the a2 being designed for more revs, but so far as i know, the a3's main downfall is an unbalanced crank. hmmmmmm... someones gotta make a low compression a2 deal or somethn.. ill make it my lil project over the next 2 years

Dude I was just being a smartass cause he said he seconded the "A@" block idea...A@ block.

just have the low comp pistons made custom, wouldn't run you more than probably 7bills.

since you're in oc, check with importbuilders in fullerton, all jeff really does over there is turbo hondas and fixing the tools who go full boost on the first day they get their motors done. i haven't been there in well over a year but i'm sure he's doin k series motors by now.

i was really tired
i meant top fuel dc5...and im sure they'll have low comp pistons and rings for a2 motor soon.
as was said pay attention to the japanesse companies. those pistons have to be out there somewhere...or maybe theyre under my couch cushions next to secret decoder ring :D

In response to: "Has this been done?"

Jack Harris at P1auto in Charlotte has an A2 head on a K24 block with plans to add a turbo.

the oil cooler is between the block and the oil filter......

you can buy the part from acura.

the swap is simple as 1,2,3... just need an ecu from a type-s and a new head gasket, preferably from the guys a spoon or toda, they give you a thinner head gasket for higher compression.

If i ever get a type-s head, i would port it first....heheheheh:D

oh, and the crank in the a2 vs. the a3, does it have an extra oil reservoir? our bottom end can handle 10,000 from the factory right?

at least the 4ag 16v could....

I would also upgrade the injectors from the Stock A3 IM (270cc) to the stock A2 IM (310cc) to run with the A2 Ecu:D
