I was at the dealer last week and noticed that the rsx had a shift boot adapter listed in the accessory catalog and my cost was less than $6 so I ordered one for the hell of it. it has come in and I have to say that it is not a ctr top ring but it is a better solution than the washer. basically the bottom of this looks like the bottom of our shifter and the top is flat with rolled edges. it snaps in and holds the boot where it should be. the top surface is lightly textured and it is black. "this thread is useless without pics", tough, I don't have a digicam. picture this, you cut the bottom off your shift knob with the 2 prongs on it, thats it. part # is 08999-bak-100 list is about $6.50 I got it for $6.04 total.

its just a fairly flat piece that snaps in the chrome ring and holds the boot up. it entirely covers the top of the chrome ring. if it was chrome, it would look like it was made together. it is made for the rsx, but the part crosses over to some honda vehicle, they could not tell me which one though.

What I think he is talking about is the same piece that is at the
top of the integra type R boot. I got it when I bought the optional
rsx aluminum shift knob. it was $50 from acura but it came with the piece he is speaking about. here is a picture of it.

I never saw the other post or I would have kept this to myself. it DOES NOT look like the CTR boot. it flattens off the stock chrome ring and holds up the boot. I HAVE NO DIGI. or a MOMO knob to put it on. fuckin forget about it!

thats it. thank you for the pic. I tried to search clubrsx last night but it was slow as shit. it is not a CTR boot, as I said. I DID NOT know what it was when I ordered it, but I felt the odds were good it might worth the try. take it or leave it.

http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21562&highlight=rsx glad you disapprove, glad you like something $50 more, sorry I fuckin mentioned it (AGAIN, as I did not see it the first time), maybe SOMEONE ELSE will find it helpful.

this place is getting as bad as some other sites for the negativity. if you don't like it fine, I like it better than the washer idea, and I WILL NOT spend 50-60 bucks on a CTR boot that has $2 worth of difference. this works for me, as it will for some others. to those, glad I could help.

I bought this clip today to go w/that JMD type r knob. I was thinking of buying a chrome type spray paint to try and match the chrome collar. Hopefully it'll work.

oldschool,

Thanks for the part # and info. i've been looking for that clip for the longest. It comes the FP knob but that knob is ugly and overpriced. They would not sell me just the clip, so thanks again!

Thanks oldschoolimport! I know this is a good solution to all of the people that are not looking to buy a CTR boot. It's because of people like you that this site rocks.

i think even if it looks high...when your sitting in the car, you're looking down at it...so you can't really tell the depth. besides...who looks at your shifter as your shifting? thanks oldschool for spending a couple bucks to try something out and come here and share with everyone. :)

Thanks, oldschool. You just saved me $44. I wanted to switch out my OEM knob, but read that there were some issues. This looks like a nice solution.

OR....

http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21017&highlight=CTR+boot

In the first couple pics, I modified my stock boot, taking off the chrome ring and using the black plastic ring from the inside (the part that the chrome piece snaps onto) to top off the boot.

Looking at it now, it does look pretty bad sitting that far down. It could be held up by a skinny washer, though.

However, raising the tip higher will pull on the boot as a whole. The CTR boot (pic farther down in that thread) naturally sits high enough to bump against the shift knob without having a washer underneath.

so this is to help reduce the boot from lookin all saggy wen u have an after market knob that doesnt fit onto the boot?

sorry for the dumb question

sorry for the dumb question

If my method is used, no sagging what so ever. The bushing grips the boot, you'll have to force the boot down if u want sagging.

If anyone is still looking for the black plastic shift boot adapter, Honda dealers now can order them (I heard that Acura no longer sells them, but I haven't confirmed this). P/N 08999-BAK-100. Mine came out to be $10.62 total.

can you shave the chrome plastic collar down? with the piece from acura still working right?

To answer your question, yes, the locking nut comes with your skunk2 shift knob. As for the black adapter, I got no idea, hehe.

Oh i see. So if i decide to use your diy on the converting the shifter boot, then will i need to use the locking nut? Your DIY seems like the best method so far on eliminating that gap. I jus gotta go find those rubber bushings i took out. Hope they're still around...
