The fancy blue bulbs are not any brighter on the road, they have blue coating or blue in the bulb glass. Blue makes it look brighter, but it is not. So if you want the best lighting on the ground go for Silverstars, if you want the most glare for the oncoming drivers, go for the Cheapo ebay bulbs or HID conversion.

I have decided to carry my 1 million candle power big ass rechargable spot light with me, just for the purpose of making people with sloppy HID conversions feel what my retinas feel.
Hey, if you do go for HID, please adjust them properly!!!!

I personally have MTEC's 170 watt bulbs which put a really good light patch on the ground and DO NOT blind the oncoming traffic, unless I high beam them.

I seriously hope that you upgradded the wiring to your 170w bulps when you changed out your stock lamps. It's just a matter of time before you smoke your wiring or headlamp curcuits.

Found this while looking for MTEC bulbs --

http://www.geocities.com/blueiedgod/crv/lights.html

If they're really within the limits for current draw, they'd be alright.

The cheapo "Xenon" bulbs I had for a couple weeks weren't nearly as bright as stock bulbs. They looked different, they were "whiter", but that's about it.

4000K, 6500K, etc., are not power ratings -- they describe color temperature. Google finds these sites:

The first link is actually my website. The picture is the actual box for the lights. They are listed as 170/160 watts with 100/90 watt draw. So, 100 watts/12 volts= 8.3 amps for a circuit rated at 10 amps, if i am not mistaken the headlight fuse is 10 amps. Close, but no need for a new wiring harness.

I knew I recognized your username in that URL.

Bulbs & harness still going strong, I take it? Would be nice to have a really bright filament bulb, since I'm not convinced that HIDs will avoid adding more glare.

Well, the wiring is still strong, but the bulbs... I bought the bulbs in fall of 2001, I am on my third set now. Luckily the guy that I bought from honors the lifetime warranty on them. I just have to send them back and pay $4 to cover shipping.
