So, I went to Lute Riley Honda about a month ago and asked some questions about the 04 EP's. No answers. I left them my name and number and today while I was eating lunch I get a call and bam, its the salesman I was talking to. He had told me on December 22nd he'd have his next shipment of Si's, but to my suprise and delight, he had a black one sitting in the lot RIGHT THEN (and RIGHT NOW because I just got back!)!

Here's the deal.

YES. The 04 EP's come with these headlights!

YES. The 04 EP's new headlights bubble out.

NO. They are not the same shape as the 02-03's.

I DON'T KNOW. Will they be swappable? No one at the dealership knew either.

TrippZ

NO. The 04 EP's do not come equipped with a 2.3 liter engine!

YES. It is the exact same engine as the 02-03 EP's! Except for the sticker on the air box that says everything is warrantied and there's alot of computers and electronics in the engine!

TrippZ
12-18-2003, 02:18 PM
YES. The 04 EP's come with changes in the interrior. The air vents have silver trim on the switches that change the direction of the air.

YES. Half of this Si is covered in dirt. Look at the line right above the front of the hood. This Si had JUST gotten out of the warehouse when I got there.

My dealership just got it's first '04 Si delivered 10 minutes ago. The car does look better in person than the pictures indicate. I don't like how the headlights bubble out, and I still don't like the taillights, but they don't look as bad up close as they do in the pictures. Won't be giving up my '02 Si for the '04 any time soon though.....

One thing I do like about the headlights is the fact that they have the small bulb that the 97-01 Preludes used to have in the housing. Also the 96-00 JDM headlights had this bulb.

I thought I liked the headlights until I saw how they bubble out. The silver on the vents is pretty cool. The tail lights still suck but the 5 lug is cool.

Yeah, the dealership here in Annapolis got their first '04 EP in about 2 weeks ago. I noticed it on the lot the day afer it came in but didn't get a chance to drive it or anything :(

What I'm wondering is if us '02-'03 guys can use those side skirts as well.

Are they just added on to the car, or are they part of the body?

The '04s are made with the holes in the frame already for the skirts, so if you wanted them for your '02 or '03 Si, you'd have to drill holes or use the 3M tape to stick them on.

I'll try to head back tomarrow for a head to head shot so you can tell the differences... no back to back becuase i have taillight modifcations... no side to side becuase I have rims and tint and bumperlenses blah blah blah and my tires are ugly :)

I like the side skirts. Did you say the rims were bigger? Are they 16" Strange how they went to a 5 lug since no civic in the US has. The headlights and the tailights I don't really care for, but I bet this time next year they will grow on us like how are EP's are now. I remember when they first came out I thought they were hideous and a little over a year later I bought one. Go figure.

The new wheels look terrible. Who'd want the slower steering rack and the larger turning diameter that come with them? That and the extra weight on the 04s = no thanks.

I checked out a new 04 Si at my local dealership and i must agree the sideskirts are def. cool. I would love to get them on my 02 but i def. didnt like how the new headlights bubbled out, it looked terrible. The new tails and wheels i thought were not to bad. It was dark and I only looked through the window and didnt really notice any of the interior differences....but overall i like my 02 better but would like it even more if i could get me a set of those sideskirts. Bet there gonna cost a fortune though.....

The headlights, as well as tails, are swappable. But who wants a grey steering wheel? Why would you trade in an 02 or 03 ep for an 04? Too lazy to do a 5 lug conversion? Don't want to drill exactly how Honda did? Sounds pretty stupid to me...

5 lugs are very nice, they'd make putting on Type R wheels so easy! But i'm still happy with the looks of my 02, plus my type-R sideskirts look allot better than the factory 04's mini skirts.

Ummm...where? We have headlight bulbs, turn signal bulbs, and running light bulbs in the headlight assembly. If you are reffering to our running lights, its not the same. The city lights give the headlight a slight glow.

I'd imagine bigger wheels with the 5 lugs would require more metal and reinforcement... something like that... i'm just giving the general idea, I have no real idea about the weight!!

well this is my opinion but i was at the honda dealership today and as i drove around back a lot boy was bringing up the first 04 that they have and put it on the lot...it is black and i must say...the 16" wheels look dope....the side skirts in person (and i hate body kits) look so f'in sweet...i am definately going to get those with a front usdm type r lip....the tail lights still suck even in person and the head lights looked ok but when you see them bubble out in person they look lame....as someone else posted the steering wheel is grey which looks odd and the chrome vents handles....there are silver window switches now....besides the 5 lug, the 16's almost look like 17's for some reason, i think its the side skirts that bring down the profile or the car but stock 02-03 verse stock 04....04 looks so much more meaty and bad-assed....i didnt think so in the pictures but in person it is a sweet-sweet ride....the car i looked at was in milwaukee, wi at russ darrow honda on brown deer road.....thats my opinion!!!!

2 things. the "theres alota computer shit that might be warrentied" sticker on the airbox is old. my 03 had one.

and im sure the headlights are swappable. it makes more sense. why design new fenders/hoods/bumpers for no reason!? but then again they DID do it with the 99-00 civics. but then again there were enough of those to be worth the work. but anyway, my moneys on YES we can swap em. why we'd want to i dont know. id rather put the $$$ towards some CTR lights instead;)

therefore the unsprung weight will be more and the suspension motions, accelleration and braking will be effected. not much, but they will be effected. especially with the way auto makers use really heavy stock wheels.

Mighty_Mouse
12-20-2003, 09:56 AM
Not only the wheels, but the entire car is heavier than the 02-03. Extra weight, worse steering rack, bubble headlights, riced taillight, chrome paint inside, no red stitching, ugh! I do like the look of the smaller side sills on the black cars, but the rest of it is lame, IMO.

Possibly the best feature of the '04 Si is the completely revised suspension and steering. Both of these have been the cause of many complaints in the '02-03. I have not driven the 04, but have seen one on a dealer's lot. It appears to be lower with only a three finger gap (instead of four) between the rear fender and wheel. Crawled under and checked out the part number sticker on the rear shocks and it is different from mine. IMO, the headlights look hideous, bulbous, and bug-like. I prefer the flush fitment look of the 02-03.

i'd still rather take an 03 over the 04, ya the 5 lug is nice but i couldnt stand driving a car with those tail lights/headlights. i saw one in person the other day and it was just a disappointment

I jsut wanna point out that the cosmetic changes in the 04 may not be the best choices Honda has made in a while. The mechanical changes such as the suspension and steering changes to remedy the creaking steering and such may just be a much needed step up towards Honda reliability.

The lights will get swapped for 04+ CTR or some other aftermarket parts with a few simple bolts, however redesigning the whole steering and suspension for an average buyer wouldn't be as simple.

I say the 04 is a step up from the 03 and older models. The majority of rants about it here are based on wheels that we all change and head/tail lights we would have little or no trouble swapping.

Sooo, dispite a few negative cosmetic changes in the 04, I say it's already got a hand up on the later models based on a 5 lug, redesigned suspension and steering, and toss in the optional HFP package, and you've got yourself one hell of a ride(screaming to be turbo'd) straight out the box.

Just my 2 pennies on it.
