Haha...yeah, just hit the AC button after you hit defrost. Sort of
annoying, but not that big of a deal. I think if you have it on
"hot", having the AC on won't hurt anything. A friend the other night
swore up and down that having the AC on and it turned to "hot" was the
proper way to heat up the car...

i have found that the defrost works much better with the ac button on.

But when the A/C is on don't you lose power/acceleration?

Seems that no one knows what he's talking about. Just search around (not in the manual). There's a key-press technique that must be done to allow the AC to be turned off manually when the defroster is selected. Something like turn all knobs to the left, depress recirc then turn the ignition to on, or something. I blew the salesman away when I showed him the trick just before driving off the lot.

We're talking about the front defroster.

Yup, absolutely the first thing that I did when I got into my new car. Search here, but I think that I found it at k-series.

Back from the dead...but this was killin me!

What you will need: Two Fingers

Time Needed: 10 seconds.

Annoyed with how you can't turn off the A/C when you turn to defog? Here's the override (realize that A/C expediates the defog process).

These steps are taken from a discussion thread on 2k1civic.com

Turn Car Off
Turn Temperature Knob To Full Blue (All the way to the left - Counter-Clock Wise)
Turn Vent Knob To Off (All the way to the left - Counter-Clock Wise)
Hold Down Air Recirculation Button As Well As A/C Button
Keep Both Buttons Depressed and Start Car
Keep Both Buttons Depressed for 7 Seconds
*AC LIGHT SHOULD BLINK*

You will now have control of your A/C regardless of what setting you are in, to revert back, simply repeat the procedue.

That's weird in my car I've always been able to turn off the A/C when I turn on the defrost. In fact, I usually have to turn it on!!

Another thing to mention is to make sure you do not have it set on defrost when you are doing the steps listed or it will not work.

Isn't the A/C suppose to help the defrost process??

mine still kicks on the a/c when i turn to defrost but its able to turn off now... which is awesome and all but i wish the a/c wouldnt engage at all when i turn back to defrost...

the compressor kicking on even for the split second while driving down the road is still pretty annoying. but at least its better than before.. thanks for the info
