After 25,000 miles my EP still consumes oil at a rate of 1300-1700 miles per quart. Engine was broken in properly, but burnt oil from the beginning (10 miles on odometer when purchased). I tend to run the car hard, but others claim to do so and not burn a drop of oil. I have an early 02 and run synthetic oil - currently Castrol GC 0-30W. About 15,000 miles ago, I had an oil consumption test run at dealership with Honda 5-20W dino, and for two consecutive 1000 mile tests, the car burnt only about 1/2 qt each time. So at best, I was getting 2000 miles per quart. Just recently, I had to add 1/2 quart for about 400 miles traveled. Early on I was informed that oil consumption would slow. It ain't happenin. How many have had their block replaced because of high oil consumption?

oil is oil... The lighter the oil the faster it burns. Our engines use very light oil. My car has 3000 miles on it and i had to add half a quart, but i wasnt running Mobil 1, just the break in oil that came with it.

I'd try switching to a convientional oil (No synthetic) and go with what Honda recommends, 5W-20. I've been running Castrol 5W-20 from the beginning and I don't burn any oil. Even when it was new it didn't burn any oil. But I don't drive all that hard, I do mostly freeway driving and I change my oil religiously at or before 3000 miles ;)

How many miles did you have on it before you performed the first oil change?

4752 miles at first oil change. Had to add 2.6 qts of additional oil during those first miles - never let level go below lower hole on dipstick.

Since my last consumption check when I burnt ~0.5 qts oil per 400 miles of mostly city driving, I topped off the oil, and took a 270 mile highway trip. During that highway trip, EP was mostly in 5th running 70-90 mph. Afterwards, checked oil and none was consumed. It appears that more oil is consumed during stop and go driving than with highway driving. Also, I noticed that consumption increases as the oil in the sump gets older.
