That's a new one! I wonder what a new cat costs? I am not using mine currently. Try a search on an O2 sim, think it's about 80 bucks. Not good for emmision testing but less costly than a new cat I think, then gut the puppy, or put in a high flow cat!

Edit: found the link to the simulator. O2 sim (http://casperselectronics.com/cgi-local/store/commerce.cgi?product=IMPORTS) A couple of guys have this and have had no cel probs. Part # 104153 hth;)

Maybe you just got a bad cat from the factory.

Don't worry to much. The cat will have to deal with more flow, increases the amount of crap getting stuck there, and causing build up. Not that much different though, they don't last forever.

well the light is off now. i probably won't see it for another few weeks. it comes and goes. it happens to my friend's cars too so i guess it can be common, but from your responses it doesn't sound like it. :)

I have one of the hi-flow cats from eBay on my car. 5K+ miles
with it so far, I get a CEL (weeeeeeee!) but it doesn't affect
performance/gas mileage and I've been pretty careful about
watching it (note that crusing around 90mph on the highway is NOT
good for mileage ;) ).

Fishboy,
Does your EP have high oil consumption? If enough phosphorus (from engine oil) gets to the cat, it can lead to premature cat failure.
