VAROOM sound when you start up the car?

noob question here... how do i get the deep vrooom sound when i start the car? which part does it deal with? the intake? exhaust? none of those? i want that sound! but dunno how to obtain it.. or is it even possible with our four banger? thanks!

I'm not exactly sure which sound you mean, are you talking about the exhaust sound? or is it coming more from the engine?

more from the engine... i THINK... it's like this deep whoosh of air... it might be characteristic of an exhaust.. i wouldn't know cuz i've never owned one... exhaust aside... is there anything else that would make a car produce that sound?

doh... i guess it must be the exhaust... i don't like the sound of exhausts...too loud for me... i just like the cool sound it makes when you start up the car...

blow off valve... i would love one of those... now if i only had turbo...

i only ask cuz someone told me if i put a different filter for my intake i would get that sound... i thought it sounded fishy...

you wouldn't get any sound with any type of drop in filter for a stock intake

I always thought my CAI sounded like a hissss when I turned off the car, but either way it's a nice sound.

thanks again for all the replies... now a new question... which exhaust will give me that deep varoom sound... BUT is also the most quiet while crusing down the highway (basically won't turn heads, + girlfriend doesn't like loud exhausts...)


Will a custom midpipe give me this sound? (this would seem to be my cheapest alternative) :D

who the eff cares if your car makes a noise when you start it. normally when i start my car, it's early and i'm cranky cause i gotta get my butt off to work and the last thing on my mind is the sound my car makes. put it this way, i'm happy i have a car that starts period... as for the sound, get an exhaust or better yet, you could find a nice sound clip of a car starting with a sound you like, burn it, and play it really loud... :p

If you want a VAROOM sound, unbolt your car from your header. Drive around your neighborhood to piss of your neighbors too. :D
