Just ordered this exhaust from Performance-Curve.com, for $315 shipped. Just wanted to thank all you guys who've answered my questions about this exhaust and now I finally bought it. :D :smilem:

Oh, and I was wondering if the one I ordered is the correct one thats for our cars, because they didn't have a picture included in their order page, just the description.

http://www.performance-curve.com/exhaust/catbacks/magnaflow/car/honda.htm

It's the first one on the list under "Civic". #15757. Is this the correct one? And is it the complete catback exhaust kit?

Thanks again for all your help guys, I'll get it installed as soon as I receieve it, and let you all know how it runs. ;)

Please someone answer my original question... And also, does anyone know if this exhaust is 100% California Carb/smog legal/noise legal?

That's the correct part number, so you're ok.

first off, i'm not a lawyer - just a lay person that has read the rules. please don't consider this legal advice. you are on your own...

as far as i understand catback systems are not regulated by the california air resources board (CARB) because they do nothing to create/increase exhaust emissions but you can look up carb eo #'s at
carb (http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/devices/amquery.php)

in any case, the ca vehicle code spells out quite clearly the noise aspects of an exhaust system...

cars are required to have an adequate muffler
27150 (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27150.htm)

exhaust noise is limited to 95dba
27151 (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27151.htm)

it's illegal (misdemeanor) for any california company to sell (or install) an exhaust system that doesn't conform to the noise regulations of the ca vehicle code.
27150.1 (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27150_1.htm)

if it is found that a reseller/installer did sell/install a non-complying exhaust they are responsible for making it compliant or reimbursing the costs for such.
27150.5 (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27150_5.htm)

if you get a ticket for violating 27150 ot 27151 you might get it dismissed if you can show that it would "cause an unreasonable hardship without resulting in a sufficient corresponding benefit" to bring it into compliance...
27150.2 (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27150_2.htm)

if you are ticketed for violating 27150 or 27151, and "if a certificate of compliance has been issued by a station pursuant to Section 27150.2, or if the defendant had reasonable grounds to believe that the exhaust system was in good working order and had reasonable grounds to believe that the vehicle was not operated in violation of Section 27150 or 27151", it may be dismissed.
27150.7 (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d12/vc27150_7.htm)

basically, if you get ticketed, hopefully you bought it from a ca company or got it installed by a ca company.

if so, you can either get the company to make it compliant or reimburse you for doing so. sue them if you have to using 27150.1 and 27150.5... you can also mention to the company that what they did was a misdemeanor and that it would probably be best if they just dealt with the situation instead of bringing that fact to court.

if not, you might be on the hook for testing and bringing it back into compliance - unless you can convince the judge that you had reasonable cause to believe it was compliant or that bringing it into compliance would cause unreasonable hardship. who knows maybe you can sue out of state companies for reimbusement, too...

ps: can a mod make this a stickie? if not here maybe in the regional area...

Thanks for the reply. It was a bit confusing, but still helpful. I'm not sure where Performance-Curve is located in (the retailer I ordered the exhaust from), but I know that Magnaflow corp. is located in Southern California. (I've visited their office complex once). And since Magnaflow is USDM, and not an import part or anything, I'm assuming this exhaust is pretty safe (?). Anyone else have opinions/insights?

my car was their test-fit car over at their rancho santa margarita research and development center. i witnessed the design, dynos, fitment, and noise limit tests. i am very happy with everything i saw. the exhaust is of high quality and fitment is great. i personally believe that the in-cabin sound level from the exhaust is a bit to loud from 3400-4000 rpm, but i'm a 40 year old guy with 40+ year old ears! it did seem to mellow a little after a few weeks, but i may have just got used to it.
