well i know i saw a thread debating break in oil and if it really exists and how long to leave it in but the search doesnt like words 4 letters or less even if theyre words that could help us all like oil or cam.... so should i change it or just add some? my sticker from the dealer said 3500 miles for first service. the engines not dry either it has just over the bottom hole in the dipstick worth of oil. but still i dotn want it to get too much lower. also if i do change it what kind of oil?????????? i used all synthetic in my old car but that was turbo. also should i switch my trans fluid to redline???????or is it too early for that??? any reason not to chance the fluid????i thought it might help my notch problem with 2nd. i used it in my jetta and it worked well but i changed that at 20,000 miles and not 2600. anybody?

I'm running 5w20 in my car.

I changed my oil after 1,000 miles and then again at 3,000 miles.
I consistenly change my oil every 3,000 miles.

I say add oil considering almost everybody's car here that changed their oil before 5,000 miles is consuming to much oil.

Honda definetely puts special break-in oil in the S2000s (acknowledged by Honda and put into writing) and they may use a special break-in oil in their other cars as well. With the S2000, they warn against changing the factory oil before 3750 miles and not to use synthetic before 7000 miles.

The first oil change on a new vehicle is VERY important, it is even more important to follow Honda's guidelines for this service. So, use your Owner's Manual to determine when your first service should take place.

https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/Maint...aqs.asp?faq=oil

You have to register with Honda to access this site, but we should all do this anyway. There is very useful info at this site, payment info, maintenance info, etc. Check it out!!

This is copied and pasted from Honda's OwnerLink website:

Why should I wait to change the oil the first time?
Your Honda engine was delivered with an oil that is specially formulated for new engines that have not yet developed their "natural" wear patterns and may contain minute particles from the manufacturing process.
American Honda strongly recommends this special oil be left in the engine long enough for these wear patterns to develop, usually until the first maintenance interval specified in your Owner's Manual, based on your specific driving conditions.

I agree. Top it off with Honda 5w-20. The factory fill has a high moly content to aid break-in. Wait at least 4000 miles to change it. Check this forum:Bob is the Oil Guy (http://www.bobistheoilguy.com)

Good move. It went against what I believe in, but I waited 4500 to change mine. I have nearly 22,000 miles now, with no oil consumption problems.

CHANGE IT!

Change again at 4000 miles with dino oil. And then again at 7000 with dino. However, at 10k, switch to Mobil1 if you want to. I have zero oil consumption problem after that.
