View Full Version : Is it true what they say about the Si?

That the car is programmed to go faster the more miles you put on it? I've read that the Si gets faster at 2,500 miles and then gets reallyfast at 10,000 miles. Is this true?

well, I have hit the 11000 mile mark, and let me tell ya, it flys. I'm posting like 13 et's and sub sonic 0-60 mph.

ok, I'm lyin. But it felt really good to think that would happen huh?

I'm sure it's just that it loosens up a bit with some mileage. Somethin to look forward to!

In my own defense, since snubnose made me sound like a fool (unintentionally I hope)....

My personal experience since 10,000mi. has been smoother/faster acceleration and an overall feeling of more speed (I don't know about top speed as I have only done 110mph max).

I spoke to the service tech who works on my car at Honda, and he told me of the ECUs retention of power to prevent you from driving too hard to early in your engine's life...

Basically, when you buy your car it SUBperforms...

After 10,000mi. -- you finally understand that $19,000 versus the competition at $15,000 was WELL worth it..

You get what you pay for.

'Nuff said.

Oh, and I've been told by hacim, a user on this site that prior Si HB ownership has proven that theirs more surprises at about 30,000mi. when the engine is "well seasoned"

Hope this helps...

esmith 13:

I didn't mean to make light of what you said, it simply was the most interesting thing I've read about the Si in a long time.

Personally, at 2,000 miles, it seems so easy now to rev it to 5,500 rpm, whereas before, the engine seemed a little tight and reluctant.

I think there's truth to what the dealer is saying.

Typically after 30000 miles a car will be about 0.2 of a sec faster. my cobra was faster after 30000 since i went from a 13.8 to a 13.5 on stock motor. My ITR seems to be quicker now since I have 33000 miles on the ticker. i also gained 8 hp to the wheels by just taking the top of my air box off and putting a custom catback exhaust on. For $376.25 I gained 8 hp to the wheels, cool!!

I had a 1996 cobra, the biggest piece of crap i have ever driven!!! now dont get me wrong the 98 and higher cobras are a much better car and i will tell you why. my 96 became the trial and error cobra for the state of Texas. i had my cooling package redesigned (overheated twice and started the cylinder shut down on me, went to 4 cylinders one day), my brakes redesigned, my pulleys redesigned ( i threw 5 of those 100,000 mile belts), transmission rebuilt because of factory defect causing overshift, and i wrecked it twice basically because the car was too high and had faulty brakes. State Farm didnt drop me or inc rates because they have an ongoing investigation on the 96 cobra for all the problems. your 98 is a much better car, the 97 was lowered but still had the brake problem. no offense but i dont think i will ever go back to ford again. bought a 98 zx2 because it took me over a year to sell the stang and the zx2 blew an engine at 70mph because of a faulty oil pump. the advisor wasnt surprised either!!
I hope you are having a better time with yours than i did, it was a really nice car when it worked. i will try to post pics sometime

i agree, i don't know about the ecu being programmed for better acceleration, but it does feel zippier after a few miles. feels like it's breaking in good.

i agree with this. the more miles I've been putting on, the easier it revs at higher rpms and the car feels like it's begging more!
