this is a bit tangential, but don't you guys leave your car in gear? i usually leave mine in gear because that's what i was taught to do...not sure why. backup to e-brake failure?

In fact, the owners manuals of every car I've ever owned says to leave the car in gear when parked. Old Saabs (I don't know about newer ones) had to be left in reverse to remove the key, similar to how many auto tranny cars must be put in park.

yep... i was also taught to leave the car in gear too! and to pull the ebrake up... i don't like it when the car "rolls" when people don't use the ebrake when parking...

No worries, just like when you stall a car that first time you drive a stick ;)

yup i hate the little roll the car does when the e-brake is not left on.

lol... i remember when i did this when i went to a clubrsx meet. one of the guys wanted to get a feel of the shifter so he was playing around with it. but i normally don't put it in gear to park unless i'm on a hill or something. so when we were all ready to leave, i start the car, lifted off the clutch, n' the car jus launched forward. another guy in an rsx looked over at me n' smiled. i felt like such a tool. :o  :D
