Accident Recording

I heard there is a part in our car the size of a cigarette box that records the last 5 seconds leading up to an accident. I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on this. I messed up my car and wanted to get this piece out to see how fast I was going, so on and so forth... Since there may be a trial pending.

I tried doing a search and couldnt find anything bc I dont know what its called so any help is appreciated.

Automotive Black Box. Use that for a google search. I doubt you will be able to read any info off it yourself. I think the data is stored in the ECU.
