I am looking into putting the A3 into a civic other than the SI. I want to find a old civic for cheap and put the A3 in.

So what Im asking here is what is the lightest/easiest chassis that I could drop this into?

I have heard about putting it in a EK Hatch and I was wondering how hard this is? who makes the motor mounts and if any cutting/welding is nessacary?

Any help is appreciated.

hybrid racing has developed a mount kit for EG hatches.

In 92-95 EG civics the CX & VX were the lightest models. In 96-00 EK the HX & DX were the lightest models. These are the hatchback models(this is what you want). I'm not 100% sure if this info is right, i'm just guessing of top of my head. Here's a thread with the rest of the info...Enjoy!

If I remember correctly, Ek Civics did not have an HX trim level. The 96-00 hatches only came in CX and DX.

96-98 is the best looking hatch IMO.

Ive seen one, a 1995 Vx with built k20a3, Very quick little car! Not FAST but just quick, I wouldnt mind riding in one with a k20a2 or k20a. That would be a wild ride! Id go with a 92-95 Hatch!!

While the older hatches are lighter, the EK (especially the 99-00) hatches have a slightly stronger chassis.. which is a good thing, and plenty of room for the A3 in the hood (more room than the EP3, actually.)

You'll also need to do some stiffening with the suspension, since the K-series weighs more than the D-series, but probably not as much as the H-22 would weigh.

Will you be using the K-series trans or the D-sereies? if so, try to go with the K trans and a LSD if its the Si. If not try to get a 00 EX or Si trans.

Good Luck!

K-Series engine mounts up to a D series tranny?

as far as weight goes, i'm pretty sure the K series is lighter than the B series, which in turn, was a bit lighter than the H series.

I read up somewhere that it's just a tad bit lighter than the B18C but weighs the same as B16s. Anyone else want to get some articles out?

i agree, the ek is prolly better due to stiffer chassis, and its damn sexsi. however, i heard that the a3 is ligher than the B block by a few lbs, so it couldnt be that much stress on the chassis? id love to see this done, itd really win some magazine coverage.
the best part is if you go turbo, youll put down ungodly amounts of power, then, you will need chassis strengthening cuz youll be putting down almost 200ftlbs of torque.

honda? torque? wtf?

id imagine that it would mount into any civic that had a D block in from the factory.

id say, try to find out if it would fit into a CRX HF chassis, if i remember correctly, they were one of the lightest civics ever

The k20 is lighter then the b18, it's been discussed many times. Check out honda-tech.com, spiffy eh?

Could the same motor mounts for the EK be used for the 'EM'? Body style? LIke the same body style as the 99-00 SIs?

the sixth gen EM1 99-00 Si, to my knowledge, is the same as the EK. The 7th Gen EM2(2001-2003or4 coupe{im not sure if the 04s with the new headlights are still EM2, as far as i know its the same}) is a little different i think

EJ = 96-00 non-Si Civic coupe/sedan
EK = 96-00 Civic hb
EM1 = 99-00 Civic Si
EM2 = 01-up Civic coupe/sedan (including the 04 styles)

Hay, let me clear this up. Hasport has a soild billet mount kit for the k-series in ek body, and they do have alot more room than the eps.I work at Hasport and we have a red ek with a turbo and there was still plenty of room for wrenching. This is a great made kit and is cad/cam designed to fit without have to hack your car apart. Im pretty sure that it will be in up coming mag. Is getting tuned as we speak, lets say 400-450 horses is what the target #s are.By the way the kit is $700 and comes with all the brackets and hardware, like I said this is a really clean strong kit(LIFETIME WARRANTY). If there are enough people they might consider a gruop buy for a cheaper price(just a thought dont take my word on this one).Any questions call Hasport at 480-470-0065 or Hasport.com
