Hi everyone
I tried to get some pics posted but I really dont know how I wish someone could help me with it. Anyway my buddy just bought a 2000 civic si with 60K miles on it for like 12 grand. His car has an apexi cat-back and AEM cold air. When he got of work we decided to test it out. IN my car there was my friend who is about 6'2" and about 230 lbs. We went at it, and he passed by a 1/2 of a cars length, but than in the long run he could not keep up with me around 90 to 110 mph. I wonder if his cars is faster, cause he thinks so, and his engine sounds so agrresive as if he has a supercharger on the damn thing. My engine is stock, I onle have the catback exhaust but my engine does not sounds as agressive. Anyway can someone explain this dilemma to me?
Thanks
P.S I am Albanian and I have only been In U.S for 7 years, are there any other Albanian EP owners here?

There is alot of debate between which is faster. Its basically a drivers race. Of course mods make a difference also. But the reason the 99-00 sounds more agressive is because it has "real" VTEC. It engages a more agressice cam at high RPMs, plus it revs higher than a stock k20A3.

Is there any way, I can get my EP to sound like that. I also think the reason he kep up with me was because I had 230 extra weight on my car , compared to him that he was by himself, but I wonder if I can do any mods to make it sounds like his does? If you know any ways let me know please.

well in my experience
i got my as* handed to me by a 99 si
with the same modes i have i/h/e plus i have a vafc2 but i cant seem to get settings from anyone on here that has it.
i would say by third gear he pulled on me by a car lenght

I would say his car sounds more agressive most likely because he has a CAI and you do not.

You can do the basic bolt-ons I/H/E to get a more agressive sound. The only true way to get the B-series high rpm whine is to get a RSX-S A2 swap. It has the "real" VTEC. I've raced a few 00-01 EM1 si's and had no trouble wooping up one them. But of course i might just be beating the other drivers and not the car. The one a raced at the track, i beat by over .4 of a sec.

Anyway, I am actually going to race the kid again, and i am pretty sure that i can beat him because last time i had extra weight on my car which he didnt and that definitely made a difference. I am going to show him wassup this time.

P.S A 2003 intrepid with some spinners tried to race me....ha ha what a joke that was

peace

reality is a k20a3 has potiental but you need to heavily mod the engine to get a decent kick from it ...swapping is the only solution to get a real bases to build on ....and the k20a2 or k24 hybrid are two beautiful chioces to look at ....then you can go after the b16 and b18 that are super modded out ....

only tiff i've had with an em si, was a highway run. he had a better reaction time, in third he was half a car ahead. When I went to 4th I pulled on him about a car then shut down.

They have a stronger 3rd, but we take more advantage of 4th.

we don't have to shift to 4th when racing the 1/4.

Maybe its the drivers or my car but I smoke 99-00 civics si or not, all day in my ep.
Cold Air Intake and exhaust are the only engine mods I have right now.

the si even with a turbo really dont stand a chance to a heavily modded b16 or 18 ....unless ep3 is dont right ....now if you got a cybernation turbo with the whole work sleeves and everything you got him in the hole lol

cybernation right now got a k20 motor pushing 600 hp and still street legal ouch .......

they are both good engines, just that the b-series has been around for a while, so people know what does what. every combination with the b series has been tried to see what does better for n/a application or force induction. even now, people are experimenting with using awd to the b series, for instance the crv uses a b20 and it comes in awd, and pretty much all b series stuff is interchangable. alot of guys are putting b20 blocks in with a b16 or 18 head. then not to mention the numerous turbo kits, superchargers, and nitrous kits. the numerous aftermarket parts and bolt-ons. with the new si coming out being a coupe, i see a lot more people getting into the k series because a lot more people will be buying si's.
