View Full Version : Anybody running 225/45-17s?

I've got a nearly-new set of Falken Azenis in my garage collecting dust, giving me a guilty stare for not using them. Only thing is they're 225/45-17. I don't have any 4x100 17-inch rims, but I could buy a set. Does anybody else have this size on their car? I know it's about 3% larger than stock, but my car could use some bigger tires (currently 205/55-15).

If you've got this size on your car, can you post a pic?

Thanks!

Oh come on...!!! There's no way that the HFP tire size for an EP3 is 225/45/17. There is a navy blue BMW M3 sitting outside my office window with 225/45/17's on it. Are you trying to tell me that the OEM tire for the EP3 is the same as the M3? Now I've heard everything!!! :p

Yep. FP has 225/45 on 17s but the wheel width is 7" and the offset is 40. The M3 (E36 generation) sports 235 (245/40 on some 97-98)on a 17x7.5" wheel w/ 33mm offset. Huge difference. If your talking about the new M3s (E46), I believe those are 245s on a 18 (19s are an option) with a 8.5 width and a 30mm offset. All from the top of my head so someone please verify. Think about it this way: The RSX uses the same wheel wells and look how much room they have with there A spec kit's 225/45 17. Just make sure you get your odo, and maybe ABS, recalibrated and you'll be fine. Oh, allmost forgot..you'll be adding about an 1/2 inch in overall ride hight as well not to mention the additional rotational mass/inertia.

Sorry to burst every one's bubble, but according to the Honda site, the HFP tires are 215 not 225.

But that being said, you can put 225 on the car.

surfsi has Azenis on in 225/45/17. If he turns the wheel to lock, it BARELY grazes the inside wall. No big deal - you only turn your wheel to lock when your u-turning or parking. Both of which you typically do at 5MPH or slower...

That leads me to believe, however, a tire in that size with built in "rim protector" sidewalls would rub a bit more... You know those ones that the side wall buldges out to prevent you from scuffing your rim on a curb?

95 M3 235 all the way around with 17x7.5 or 17x8, can't remember. 96 M3 and on the wheels were staggered 17x8.5 on the rear and 17x8 or 17x7.5 on the front, with 225 on the front and 245 on the rear. New M3 has 18 and they run some fat tire on the rear (can't remember the exact size, but the wheels are staggered on the rear. Some new M3 come with 19.

Yes, the only thing is that I think they put the 5 lugs conversion, which pushes the offset down a little, neaning the wheels stick out a tad.

To be on the safe side I would go with 215, but that's just I. There's a guy here with a wilwood brake kit that's running 235 with 17.

OK... sorry!!! The M3 out front has winter tires on it so they are definetely smaller than OEM high performance summer. Nevertheless, there is still no way that Honda Factory Performance is recommending a 225/45/17 tire on a North American EP3.

I could be wrong but I'm kinda doubting that Honda would make that rec.

Since we're talking Bimmers, I have to say I'm jealous of their seemingly perfect wheel fitting. How do they get that perfect tuck without rubbing, like this??

i'm running on 214/40/17. I compared the oem wheel and tire height to the new rims and the 17s were just a bit shorter than the oem wheels. like maybe 5 mm or so.

My post, asshole, was to show TIRE GAP on a BMW. This thread is about TIRE FITMENT. I didn't ask for your all-important OPINION on whether BMWs are as reliable as Asian cars.

Try to pay attention, okay?

Will a 225/45-17 tire fit up your ass? I'm sure you've tried.

I'm running a 225/40/16 currently. The width should not be a problem, as I have plenty of room, though your 17" is an inch larger. myeverlovin is running a 235/40/17 with no problems that I know of. Your 45 aspect ratio is slightly taller, too. I'd say go for it, that's a nice fat tire size to tuck under the ep; should look real mean.

Yes, I did tried a 225 up my EP's ass and it fit fine, but I decided to stay with the 215.

When will that happen? Those are nearly the same size as 225/45-17, so I'd be interested in seeing a pic.

These rims make an otherwise beautiful car look idiotic!

Yes I am running the 235/40/17 and not a problem. Offset is +42 and is near flush with the wheel wells. I ran the 225/45/17's with +38 for near a year and they were great also.

Okay, again: The point is the nearly perfect tire fitment. Almost no gap at all, which seems more typical on BMWs than EP3s. This was the first picture I found that demonstrates that. We're not talking rim style, or Asian versus European reliability, the color of the car, or whether people like BMW.

but remember, AZENIS run a little larger than other same size tires. So the 225 AZENIS would be close to a 235 in other tire applications. But I do plan on running these as track tires once I find a reasonably cheap set of 17" 5 lug wheels that weigh under 19 lbs.

Let's all try to act like mature adults. You'll loose credability and integrity when you start acting like that. Remember, we are all EP Brothers and Sisters here with a common interest in the performance automobile. Kiss and make up. In the mean time, give those 225s a try and let us know how they work out.

Bump!

I am also interested to know if anyone here uses 225/45/R17 tires with their Ep3s.
I am about to by some 17x7 wheels and I am seriously considering getiing this size tire. If there is anyone who uses these tires can you let me know if there is a rubbing issue or not? Can anyone here post pics of their 225/45/R17 tires on their ep3s?

If this is not a good tire size for me then I guess I will go for the 215/45/R17 tire size.

I am going to be putting these on my 2004 ep3 which has the 5 lug wheel set up.
