Just take out the ECU Fuse and put it back on couple minutes later.

would he have to reenter his radio code? how will this affect other things like the mileage display? just curious.

If you disconnect battery, You will need to reset your radio.
Milege shouldn't matter.

It's what the service manual says to do. Page 211.

Sounds weird to me, too, but if Honda says so, then it must be the way to do it.

My manual has on this page how to change a bulbs in interior lights.
Can anybody tell me the best way to reset the ECU, because takeing the black wire off the battery for a couple mins sounds for me not real.

The one I'm reading from is the first edition, dated August of 2002, with a green cover. It's 1139 pages in the PDF that I've got. This particular page is #211 of 1139, and the indicator in the bottom corner reads 11-4.

Quote:
"Turn the ignition switch OFF, and remove the No. 6 ECU (ECM) (15A) fuse (A [in the manual's diagram]) from the under-hood fuse/relay box for 10 seconds."

No need to disconnect the battery for this one. The other option is to use an OBD II scan tool.

Trust me on this -- I'm not gonna pass bad info about the ECU. If I didn't know, or couldn't find out, I wouldn't have posted in the first place. I'll even post a screenshot of that page:

No problem -- every once in a while I get things right.

I put on a new air intake and midpipe and didn't bother to reset the ECU. Won't the ECU just learn the new intake and exhaust output / input and adjust accordingly?

I heard that it will learn, but it will take an Ep3 some time, so it's much faster to reset it in 10sec !!!

i'm still new to cars and dont know much of mods on what to do and no to do. So why is it important to reset the ecu.

If you change parts that change the parameters of what's going in & out of the engine (intake, header, etc), you should reset the ECU so that it can start with fresh air/fuel maps and adjust them to accommodate the new parts.

At least that's the reason I've come to understand.

well dont forget when u reset your ecm (ecu) youre ep has to relearn its idle
general when u unplug the negative or remove the fuse(which is easier less sparks) then put it back in, you then have to start the car let it warm up a bit then rev and hold it 3k rpms for 5-10 minutes. your eps light might come on but jus turn off then turn on your car and it will go away

Noob here, i recently purchased a 05 ep3 and have been trying to figure all the mods that have been done. I know it has a full invidia exhaust, megan racing 4 to 1 header. Also possibly a k20a2 head still trying to figure that out because the intake manifold is marked prb. Had a cold air intake wich i recently just put a new filter on. I know the immobilizer is bypassed but i dont think its due to a ecu flash because going on hondatas website they say a flash is unavailable for the a3 ecus. Anyways i guess my quistion is could it hurt to restart my ecu?
