I am about to get a set of 17 inch wheels and tires. I need to know if anyone here has had any rubbing issues with 225/45/R17 tires on their ep3s.

I have a 2004 ep3 with the five lug wheels. Should I worry about the 225/45/R17 rubbing with my car and just get the 215/45/R17 to be on the safe side?

Thanks for any help with this,

-j

Honda vehicles are renowned for their comfort, durability and responsive handling. But with a Honda Factory Performance package (HFP), these characteristics are elevated to a whole new level. In fact, the same engineering that Honda developed to take on Germany's Nurburgring has been utilized in every HFP component. Read below for a detailed list of what to expect. And contact your local Honda dealer to outfit your Honda with an HFP package.

Suspension
Suspension comes pre-set to factory specifications. The ride height is lowered approximately 1" while maintaining a comfortable ride.

Alloy Wheels
The plus-size alloy wheels are manufactured with hubs machined to perfectly match Honda suspension components to help ensure a smooth ride.

Wheel Offset
Wheel Offset matched to Honda vehicle suspension design helps ensure long service life of vehicle, wheel bearings, suspension joints and wheels.

Warranty
All Honda Factory Performance components installed by the dealer at time of purchase carry a full 3-year, 36,000-mile limited warranty.

Order an HFP package from your local Honda dealer to outfit your Civic Si with the following:

HFP pre-assembled spring/shock/strut system

HFP 17" alloy wheels

Underbody spoiler kit

Rear Hatch spoiler

Interior trim

HFP interior and exterior badging

Silver engine cover

Full Honda Factory Warranty: 3 years/36,000 miles

Color and kit quantities are limited and subject to availability.

I can't argue with the Honda website, 215's it is. I believe they changed their mind at some point, I didn't just make it up.;) I can't find any info to back up my claim but I know I read more than once that it would have 225/45/17's. There are other threads where several other people were under the same impression. I think it may have been way back when we saw the first spy pics of the 04 with HFP. Anyway, thanks for setting me straight guys.

so does anyone here use 225/45/17 with their ep3? I think I amgoing to just get the 215/45/17 just to be safe....but the 225/45/17 look like they would make a sweet handling tire.

I think the king motorsports ep3 project car uses 225/45/17 tires.

I just don't know.

Well it depends on the offset of the wheels. With a 225 you might have rubbing issues on the suspension. I am running a 215/45-17 with the Mugen Sport suspension on my 04 and I have no rubbing issues at all.

doesn't myeverlovinsi have 235/45/17? Maybe its not him, but I know someone on here has that setup and no rubbing issues at all. 225/45 should be fine.

Well I just got my mugen sport suspension kit in the mail today! hopefully I can get it installed this weekend.
I think I am just going to go with the 215/45/17.

Although the 225/45/17 are closer to the 2004 ep3s stock set up in terms of meesing up the speedometer. No biggie though.

I think the 215/45/17 will be sexier because of the lower profile, but I might be wrong about that...can anyone confirm this?

thanks,
-j

Height will be identical with 225/45/17 and 215/45/17.
The "215" is the width of a tire, also known as the "section width.
The "45"is known as the Aspect Ratio. It is calculated by dividing the section height by the section width and multiplying by 100.
The "17" stands for the diameter of the wheel in inches.

Huh? 225/45-17s are nearly half an inch taller than 215/45-17. The aspect ratio (45 in this case) is the height of the sidewall as a percetage of the width. If you keep the aspect ratio constant, but vary the tread width, you change the height of the tire.

Yeah man, 225/45 will have a larger profile tire. You said your self when talking about the Aspect Ratio. 215 might look better from the side, but from behind the 225 would look better IMO

Correction
215/45/17
Sidewall : 3.82
Radius : 12.32

225/45/17
Sidewall : 3.98in
Radius : 12.48in.

225/45/17 is
0.16 inch higher.

With 215/45/17
Speedometer reading with new tires is .64% too slow.

With 225/45/17
Speedometer reading with new tires is 1.93% too slow.

So does that mean that the 215/45/17 will be closer to the original speedo readings more than the 225/45/17 ??

Sorry for sounding like suck a dummy n00b.

BTW, today I ordered the Rota Attacks in bronze 17xx7.5 +45mm with 215/45/17 Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position s-03 tires.

We're talking tire height, not sidewall height. 215/45-17 is 24.61" and 225/45-17 is 24.97", a difference of 0.36". A 225/45-17 tire is 3.145% too slow and a 215 is 1.656% too slow, compared to a 195/60-15. They're both taller than stock, which is 24.21".

So do you get a "SMOOTHER" ride with the 225/45/17's???

If it rides like a caddy...get it then. Nothing like having a slammed Si, and the comfort.

Is it going to affect cornering though since it has more TOTAL rubber?
