like the Subject reads.

if you have a race header or any brand header and high flow cat, i want to hear from you, i want your opinion about it.

i.e. what is it, where did you get it, how much did you pay, how was the install, any gains, pro's/con's, etc

thanks

You do realize that in both cases you need an O2 sim and you would fail emissions (if you have them), right?

Just a heads up incase you didn't realize this.

This might make your choice a little easier, but everyone I know who has the test pipe on ebay and the sim does not have a CEL. However, the guys with a race header and the sim do. Take that for what you will, just adding my .02. :)

i know this is going to be a pain but... i say the race header, but when you bring it in for smog and what not replace it with your stock header. you wouldnt have to worry about the cops that much cause the header is hiden so far back in the engine bay most times they dont even think to look back there.

I'm sorry, but how the hell do cops look ANYWHERE at your shit??? Last time i checked they needed a warrant to investigate your posessions including your car....

Check out EP3 No. 2's local.. Yup, that says Bay Area. I take that to mean that he's in Cali, where the Cops do this kind of stuff.

Cough ** CARB ** cough.. :yellm:

yeah, i know, but there are a few things.

you probably have the sniffer in your area dont you?

well, my county is one of the "half-assed" counties. what i mean is, for our emissions testing, 1995 and older(OBD) cars are subject to a visual and a gas cap pressure test. 1996 and newer(OBD-II) are subject to a diagnostic test(code check), plus the gas cap, no sniffer, no visual.

so, if i get the o2 sim, or just wait till after my next inspection to get this, then i dont have to worry about it because next year, i *should* be putting less than 5000 miles on my car, shich means i would be exempt from emissions testing.

so, yeah i know about emissions and the possible consequnces, but i dont think, in my situation atleast, that i should have *too* much of a problem

thanks for the heads up though:cool:

i guess what i really wanna know is, is there a big power diference with the race header over the high flow cat? i mean, would the power advantage out weigh the downsides?(smell, noise, possible trouble with "the man", etc...)

Race Header all the way!!!

Our emissions is much like VividDreams. When i took my car through they did a visual inspection with the mirror, cheching for a cat. The only problem was he checked under the driver side door. The cat sure isn't under there. Besides that it passed with ease. As far as trouble with the man goes, what they can't see will not hurt them. They just want to write you a ticket so you can help pay for their new patrol cars.

what setup do you have?

power wise, no comparison. race header ownz test pipe + shorty header all day. both are illegal, one will give you a cel. I'll take the cel and more power please.

shorty header and test pipe gives cel too ;)

the only reason i went with the dc shorty header and megan testpipe was when it comes to inspection time it's very easy to switch the testpipe back to stock again.does anybody have a dyno with the A3 with a race header vs shorty header and testpipe?

yea but it seems that most of the people with that setup that are using the Casper O2 sim have no CEL issues...

if you have the megan test pipe do you have to remove the 02 SIM when you put the stock cat back on for emisions testing? how hard is it to remove. is it a plug and play sim or do you have to solder?

esmith13

even if it IS a solder setup, just tap the wires at the ECU instead of at the sensor itself and goto radio shack and get a 4 pin connector (preferably gold plated for a solid connection) and make it "plug and play" yourself.

No biggie then ;)

the sim plugs into the OEM harness, no soldering required.

Also, fsugatorbait currently has a shorty comptech header and test pipe, he will be putting on his DC race header and dynoing the difference this weekend. stay tuned.

how many people are using the caspers 02 sim?i've read many problems on club rsx about the cel comgin on evne with the sim
i have the comptech shorty and a test pipe on its way. If i install the Sim and the test pipe and i happen to get a CEL, if i put the stock cat back on and remove the sim will the cel go away automatically ?or will my 02 sensor be damaged and will i have to buy another one?

You can clear CELs by pulling the ECU blue 15amp fuse from the engine bay fuse box for at least 2 minutes.

Also the O2 sim does not protect the sensor from physical damage, it just overrides the signal so no concerns there.

Even if you put the cat back on you'd have to reset the ECU as I mentioned (or by disconnecting battery which is more labor than my way) to clear the CEL code.

Just for the record tho, I'm using Cybernation's Black Magic II ELF chip and I never got a CEL, but trust me my tips our sound advice. ;)

ok good i thought that i would have to take it to the dealer to clear it.so if the sim doesn't work and i want to put my stock cat on and remove the sim will my 02 sensor still be functional?

I'm currently running the same setup, you'll be fine.

i did a shorty/hi-flow cat combo coz i wanted to be on the safe side. not too bad, at first, i just had a jrsc-r, injen cai, dc shorty and apexi exhaust and pulled 202whp. after i added the hi-flow cat (random tech), the ep gained 26 more horses and went up to 228whp 175wtq, same tune. not bad for an extra $400.

Another blast from the past thread. I bought my mechanical o2 sim from a member on crsx for $17. I think there is a DIY to make one on here somewhere.

You can have a raceheader and a HF cat. And when I had to add fuel from idle, up to over 4K after adding the cat, that tells me I am making more low and mid power with the cat installed.

I use CarSound(Magnaflow is their brand exhaust) highflow universal cats, and their spun platinum cats.
