View Full Version : Stock Rev Limiter?

Hey, Well I've had my ep for all of three weeks and I just got my AEM V2 today. Well after the install I reved it up a little just to hear what it sounds like and the revs quit at 5K, it only happens when I'm sitting still. Just wanted to double check that that was normal... so is it?

And is there anything else I need to reset or worry about other then the automatic window up/down and the code for the radio?
TIA -ROB

Yes, at a standstill (0 MPH) the ECU will cut off the revs to about 5000-5500 RPMs. That is normal.

my EP has never done that, before or after mods. that's wierd. does it only do that at idle?

I'd like to know to but I'm to lazy to go check and I don't feel like wasting my gas just to check the rev limiter. But from what I can remember the rev limiter on my car doesn't stop at 5.5 rpms, I could be wrong. I'll check the next time I drive.

No, every EP should be like that. Just like every RSX or 97-newer Accords. At a stop, gear in neutral. Rev to 5k, it will cut out shortly after that. Try it ;)

No sir my 02 does not do that. I've bounced the rev at 6800 plenty of times at a stand still to demonstrate the theory of fuel cut off to the lesser knowing.

No, it's not good for the engine to rev it like that without being in gear. It's always best to have it work under load.

That being said, I've demonstrated the rev limiter while in gear...

My 02 does not do this. It will go all they way to the normal full cut off. I installed my AEM CAI intake last weekend and I was checking for leaks so I reved it a few times and hit 6800 the one time. It was hard to me to see the tach with being under the hood that is why I hit the limiter. But then I got in the car and did it up to 6500 without any limiter hitting in.

My 03 Si motor revved to redline in neutral at a stop, but my 03 A2 stops around 5500. It must be an 04 thing.

I don't think ive tried to hit the limiter at a stop, but would holding the clutch in while in neutral make any difference?

Man, I like your quote... only 5000 bought. I think the 04 Si's might be only 100 bought. Those things are too ugly with the lights and I don't know if it will ever grow on me...

Back to the rev limiter thing.. I am not going to try it! :-)

Well mines an 02 and it bounces at 5500 RPMs in neutral. My friends 99 V6 Accord and my moms 2000 4-cylnder Accord all bounce at 5500 RPMs while in Park or neutral. I'll have to have my friend try it on his 02 Si and see what happens. Plainol2ksi you hear? :D

you have the hondata reflash correct? i think that may have something to do with it...if you have the reflash on your k20a3 plz state that and plz state if you dont have it...

im gonna say that im 100% posotive that the 04s bounce at 5000-5500rpm when in N

neither of the 03 ep3s in my house have the reflash

This is getting interesting...

I don't see that it would be a problem for Honda to set a different rev limit when the transmission is in neutral. Even rev-matching while downshifting shouldn't be affected (or maybe it would be).

03 si bone-stock (with clutch in, shifter in first, completely stopped) revs to redline (6800).
