View Full Version : what is this?

Ok so there is this rattling noise under my car near the cat so I go under there and look around. I decide to take out a couple of things and I will see if that solves the problem. I know everything put on a car from the factory has some sort of purpose so I just need to know what these are and what effect not having them on my car will do.

The first picture is some sort of aluminum that was located directly above the cat. I take it that it is some sort of heat shield.

This second picture is a piece of metal that was located just above the driveshaft. It looks like its purpose was to protect the driveshaft.

Your floor is going to get hot with taking out that heat shield for the cat.

Oh!! Ive got a damn rattle that I cant get rid of either. I think its the shield protecting the tranny from the heat of the exhaust.

those are both just heat shields if Im correct. I would definately put that one over the cat back on though...
