so is adding the hondata blowing motors? that might be prevented w/ upgraded valve train, right?

id like to hear from the people whove blown motors, how they were driving. be honest.

I would like more info as well. Is the problem that the valve train can handle the higher rpm or what?

I have intake header and exhaust and I love to drive my car hard... no problems whatsoever and I just hit 35000 miles... Honda even said everything checked out on the motor and everything looks great!

I will take Good Engineering :)

Anyways, I just got Hondata reflash and it's increable.
I hope I won't have to deal with blown engine in the future.

Is that the Apexi rev meter? If so, how do you like it? Worth purchasing? Thanks :D

dam i dont think i want hondata anymore
i think theres quitea few eps that blew their motors dur to hondata
someone once posted that they added an air/fuel gauge and it was run the engine lean. i then ill stick with apexi vafc2 at least i have the ability to add or subtract fuel at my will. and if i go boost or sc its either greddy emanage or aem

FYI i have a beta unit,so more or less a prototype Hondata,so im not sure if there are any differences between mine and the units being flashed now.

looks the same, just like any other EP ECU..i just had it 2 months before its release, and before the final programs had been set.I know it has more timing than the current flash, and i got the ultra sweet valve bending 7950 fuel cut too......proved that on the dyno a few times,lol.....But yea, same box, slightly different guts im assuming.....

I dont think we can deduce that Hondata causes blown engines. There are a few cases on this board and some of it might be from driver error. Hondata doesnt make the driver invincible.

No problems on mine 16k miles on the EP and I got Hondata with 1k miles on the car.

exactly, couldnt say it better myself,i did NOT have to shift it past 7500 everyday, but i did......Even though i didnt miss a gear when it happened, its still MY FAULT the motor let loose...It was well maintained, but it had the fucking breaks beat off it,lol....so im not toooooooooooooooooooooooo shocked that it happened

Let's be a little happier, at least there are less blown engines here than RSX Type-S's. I am having a hard time getting used to my new Type-S, you get lost in the gearbox.

i have hondata, (soon to have turbo and hondata, i hope that holds up) but i have like 3000 miles on it, and still runnin like a champ. i have misshifted a few times before hondata, and am still nervous that i fucked somethin up when i did that, but my car runs perfectly ok, so i guess i got lucky...

All i can say is BE CAREFULL and DO NOT blame the Hondata if you have any issues.........Its not the Hondata blowing these cars up,its US

I think its a combination. Look at the numbers guys. NO one blew up there eninge without, NO ONE.

Id say its partially responsible in that it lets us run lean and lets us rev it high ... two no-no's.....

Anytime you bump up your redline on a stock engine that has a set rev limit the $hits gonna hit the fan. Thats why they put it there in the first place. :D Might not be as bad with some stainless steel valves and heavier valve springs.

raising the redline 1000 rpms w/o changing any internals is crazy, it should be 7,300 or so and cheaper

I like to believe that we have "extra room" to rev because the factory is conservative with their redline indication. They tell us that the redline is 7,200 where really the engine can handle a couple more 100 revs.

If anyone out thre is looking for a K20A3 engine because they have blown theirs, let me know. I am currently selling one with tranny for $2500. Without tranny for $1900. I am located in Miami, Fl. The engine has 23,000 miles on it.

I over reved my motor twice. First time when the car had 500 miles on it. This being my first 5 speed I ever drove almost 2 years ago. Second time about 3 weeks ago at the drag strip. Second to third to second. When I missed shifted I ran a 15.9. Right after that run a came back with my best to date run of 14.803. She felt strong all day long. After the missed shift I ran at least 5 more times. One more 14.8 and few 15.1. My car has 50.xxx miles right now. Went to honda couple weeks ago to see if everything was ok. Luckly the motor/trans runs like brand spenkin new. Now I am ashamed and some what embarrased I did this to my car but I always say that shit happends you can't do shit about it. Life goes on. Knock on wood she runs good.

i completely disagree with you on this. it is not hondata's fault that the driver takes the revs up that high. that's like the lady who sued mcdonald's because her coffee was too hot... yeah, it raises the rev limit to 7500rpm, but do those people also find out what the stock valve train can handle? people who run the motor to 7500 all the time on stock valve train are just asking for trouble. you can't really blame hondata for this. its the whole "you give them an inch and they want a mile" type thing. btw i did bend all my exhaust valves missing forth gear:mwink: now have a full ferrara valve train and rev to 8k:mtongue:

It's a good topic though. I think that over these four years we've discovered that the K20a3 is pretty indestructible if not boosted, except for the camshaft galling issue that has come to light.

i completly destroied the entire exaust side of my valvetrain with a miss shift i did a 2 3 2 at 8k and it spiked at like 10k all i can say was that there was a mess in the top of my head when i took the vc off
