I wanted to get 205/40/17 tires, I checked it out on the calculator and it reads that my car will be slower if I get 17s, and faster if I get 18's. How do they figure that? Maybe I'm an idiot, but someone's gotta explain that to me please.:rolleyes:

Its is saying that when you are goin 60 mph, your speedometer well read a slower or faster speed. not that you arent goin that speed just ur speedometer isnt reading correctly. which in the same sence you could be putting more or less miles on it if it isnt reading correctly. Hope this helps I know what i want to say i just cant say it right

::( I think I'm a bit lost - but to the point, if I get 17's and I get wheels that weigh less than stock (which are about 20 lbs/wheel right?) - will my car go faster or slower? And will that mean I rack up more or less milage on my car? :)

ok lets see if i can clarify this for ya. You are doing 60 mph with you stock wheels and tires. You know this because your speedo reads correctly because you have your stock wheels and tires. ok. So now you go and get 17's with a 205/40/17 tire now your speedo is off because your not matching the diameter of your stock wheel and tire . so now your speedo says 60mph but your goin 58. do you understand now the calculator is so you can match your stock wheel diameter so your speedo is accurate

I don't know about going faster or slower, but what the tire calculator does it makes sure that the revolutions, turns on the wheel and tire, is the same so your speedometer doesn't read wrong.

if it reads "2.8 too fast" that basically means 2 things 1) every 100 miles you're putting on 2.8 extra miles on the odometer you dont have and 2) you're speedo is gonna read 2.8% faster than you are really going. (i.e. it reads 100mph when you're really going roughly 97.2)

Oh I get it now :D Thanks for clearing it up for me! I guess I'll still go with the 17's.
