2 weeks ago, a friend and my girlfriend was in my car with me driving. While my girlfriend was getting out from the backseat, she noticed that my sunroof was rusting at the front end of the metal frame (and the roof was never opened during bad weather).

I took it to the dealer but they had no idea...at first, they were going to sand it down and respray it but eventually the replaced the whole sunroof under warranty because it was difficult to sand that area. Please note that you can barely see the rust spot from the front seat...unless you sit like all the way back. The rusting was pretty bad for me...so you may want to check yours out, too.

Btw, mine is a 2002 model.

im not sure if i'm following what part of the sunroof is rusting. why don't you do us all a favor and take a picture of the spot where its rusting. that would be cool and give us a heads up on exactly where you got it. thanks man

Use a weatherproof car cover at night.

I have some rust on the frame part that holds the glass in. It can only be seen from inside the car with the sunroof all the way back. Doesnt really bother me that much as long as it doesnt start showing from the outside

Rust never stops once it starts so you should really fix it. IT will become a nightmare. my 2 cents
