When I first got my AEM CAI I talked to a few EP'ers about them and the biggest thing was with the install what having to cut your inner fender. Some did not like cutting their fender and some that did reported more water getting into the fender and on the filter when it rained. I got this idea from a fellow EP'er but I had never seen it done by anyone on the board so I thought I would share what I did today. This is my first DIY so I hope I do this well.

I first had to go out and get some supplies.

Parts and tools needed:

1sq foot of roofing sheeting
1 can of black vinyl spray paint (only if you care about color)
6 self taping screws 1/2in in length
1/4 in socket and wrench
1 knife

1st this is what I wanted to cover up because when I cleaned my filter and noticed a lot of water marks on the back of the filter that faces the hole.

This is the rubber sheeting that I bought at a local ACE hardware.

After that I cleaned it up and painted it with vinyl spray paint.

As you can see it is nice and flexible after it has dried.

Now just cut it to size. Make sure you are cutting large enough to that you will clear all parts under the plastic in the inner fender. Last thing you want to do is put a hole in your intake.

After it is cut now just screw it in. The self taping screws go in nice and easy. If you get any hard resistance stop and look you may be hitting something behind the plastic.

After that I just cleaned it up a little with some black paint I had laying around the shop.

Once you get the wheel back on it is hard to tell anything was even there.

I hope you liked my 1st DIY. The cost of it was about $7 for everything.

I think to do that you do not bolt in the botom bolt witch I did. If you do put the bolt in you can get the inner fender over it but after a while it will rub a hole in the intake. A few guys found that out. :(

laf, now why didnt I think of that? I did alittle TO much cutting when I did my CAI. After installing the thing, I was like damn. oh well. Then i worry about water getting in. Got the cut out peice and used tons of chaulking and placed it back in place. I used contrator adhesive and something else. Dries hard and strong. But this DIY is much easier, hehehe.

I didn't cut mine that much.
There is very tiny hole. It's less than 1 inch..
