vtec doesn't work?!?!

I recently drove a type s and you can feel and hear the vtec work. I was wondering why mine doesn't...i have an 03ep. Do I need to reset the timing or something?

Not to worry. It's normal.
k20a3 is just a 12 valve engine below 2200 rpms. At 2200 all 16 of your valves are opened.
The base carriers a derivative of VTEC-E (E for economy not extra special) to save gas and produce low emissions.
Real VTEC is when the engine changes over to a different cam lobe that works better at higher RPM's,for example k20a2 from rsx type s.

OK, at 2200 rpm our engine goes from 12 valve to 16 valve and there is no true vtec on the si or base rsx. sorry to break the news.:'(

Dont worry when i first got my car a after like 800 miles i punched it 1st gear and i was like wtf...? vtec isnt poping.. i tried like 4-5 times then i did some homework about k-series motors and the dif between the a3 and a2.. i was dissapointed but hey all us ep owners are...:(

Basicly your Vtec does work but it will not sound the same as the Type-S because for many reasons. #1 A2 head has 3 lobes instead of 2. #2 A2 head has real Vtec and A3 donot. #3 The B-motors have a different setup in the motor it kicks in at 5,600 rpm so it will be loud becuse of having a delay like that. The K-motors Vtec kicks in when you step on it, (2,200 rpm the lowes). Your motor is fine and works good but swap the A2 head and you will hear a differents, thats the only way. Until them have fun with your car and don't piss beat it too much.
