Avatars (mods, please read)

I'm putting this here (in EP discussion) b/c I feel like it, dammit.

Can we please have a moratorium on the potentially NWS avatars? I just saw someone with Sydney Moon grabbing her tig ol' bitties as an avatar and as much as I like that sort of thing, my boss wouldn't. Is it too much to ask to have people clean up their avatars a tad?

I know mine isn't exactly a symbol of moral purity, but it's hard to tell what it is from a distance and even then, it isn't nudesque. I'd really hate to have to avoid ephatch altogether during work hours.

i have no problem suggesting to DTH that NWS avatar use be stopped (as much as i do like that avatar). however, as much as i love ya andy, we'll need more people to step up and also request NWS avatars be put under a moratorium. just my .02

Good point, ive had a few close calls at work luckily it wasnt with people who would care. If we wanna look at boobies there are a bizzillion of other sites out there. Its just too bad that not everyone can be as accepting as most of us cause damn audomatik avatar has me hypnotized.

i've had to turn off the avatars because they have gotten so bad here. and it not only for work reasons that the avatars should be safe, a lot of people have kids... and they dont need to see some of these.

I can see the point you guys are making however I think it's kind of funny that Andy's avatar is a guy burning up and Makross is a sword dripping with blood. Again, I understand it's not you guys that have a problem with boobies, it's other people at home/work that might have a problem with it.

I'm in for getting rid of NWS avatars. I like to browse the site from work and I have to be careful, sometimes avoiding people with NWS avatar's posts in fear that someone may see it. :eek:

I love 'em as much as the next guy but as stated above, there are a gazillion other places I can go if I need to see that stuff.

if you don't like it, turn off avatars.

the problem with it is that you have to draw such an arbitrary line that issues will arise. there is no "clear cut" rule on what is "too much."

there's also offensive avatars that aren't pornographic, which again brings up an arbitrary rule of what is considered "offensive". Albeit, 3 out of 10 people may find a semi-nude woman offensive, but 3 different people might find say, a burning man offensive. you can't please everyone. no matter what rule you make, there will be people complaining, so it's not like it's going to end.

I say, if you are worried about the avatars so much, just turn them off. I don't see that being a problem, you come to ephatch for the information in the threads themselves, not the avatars.

Avatars are useful, though. I recognize posters by their avatar more than their name (especially with all the permutations of 03/04, Si, and EP in people's names).

I think a good rule of thumb is, if you would be embarrassed for your grandmother (or mother, or priest, etc.) to see something, it's probably not appropriate.

NWS avatars are a pain. Save the porn for your right hand. I don't want to have to turn off Avatars, like Dobbs said - I recognize people by their avatars. I never look at the names.

I def. agree... i love watching EvilSi's avatar at home... the first time i saw it i kept it on the screen for about two minutes... but at work, i have to power scroll to make sure no one sees it...

NWS avatars should not be allowed.

And as for the the "you cant please everyone" theory, you are correct, but if we can narrow that offensive factor from 3 out of 10 to say 1 out of 10, thats two less co workers i have to worry about pissing off!!!

i agree the mods should regulate avatars. some here, although are sweet to look at, really shouldn't be up. someone in clubsi got fired because of an avatar (webber bread cam girl g string gif) and i'd hate to see a similiar thread about getting fired here. yeah we know the chicks are hot and we like hot chicks blah blah blah, but come on people spend most of their time here at work and we don't want to lose any of them.

on a similiar note, i think we should be able to post porn in OT with a WARNING clearly posted on the thread title. i want to see what you guys are capable of. :D

Gimme a break - I'm not some whining n00b that doesn't contribute to this site. From the get go I've tried to learn (and in turn teach) as much as I can without getting in anyone's way.

I didn't realize I could turn them off, unfortunately, I'll have to do that. I have no problem with NWS warnings in threads (as I know not to go to them) but when I want to see someone's DIY instructions and I get a pic of tits, it really makes me want to quit coming here.

So maybe I will get back to work - and you can get back to flipping burgers.

i work on the comp all day and ephatch is 70% of my time there. My boss doesnt care at all what i look at.

id say if ya need to... just shut the avatars off at work

(that avatar is almost crossing the line, is they get any worse we should step in :angel: )

Mods already regulate avatars, though we do not catch them all so it is helpful when a member points us in the right direction.

Tech. adult images was allowed, but we decided after a while that this is not a porn site and there are plenty of those. So you can go elsewhere for your nakey fix :D

Anyway locked, and will ask/warn folks first on avatars. Then we will ban or change on our own :)
