Does any one else have this problem with their 03 Si? On hot days when my black si is sitting in the sun for a long time it gets hot inside and then when I start it up the AC will not come on, but after driving a while and then turning off the engine, then starting up again it works fine? It only happens on hot days?

Mine does the same. I just rev the motor and it kicks on.

At heart our EP's are ment to be some kind of economy car... Thus A/C takes awhile to get cookin' (actually get cooled off). Ive also noticed that AC works better in Vtec mode.

Our A/C's suck... especially with black cars.. It takes forever to cool down. That is why god invtented the windows to let the hot air out :-)

Never had a problem either with my 02. And I live in 100+ degree California summer heat :( Not as bad as AZ though :D

Get an Auto Shade and crack your moon roof or windows. Parking in the shade also helps alot.

Having tinted windows also helps, My 02 EX had tinted windows and it really helped the cold/heat. the 02 SI on the otherhand does not have tinted windows and it sucks. I'm hoping it will get some tint soon.

I thought tinted windows. "darker" absorbs the heat... If it helps, I am getting them tinted :-P

You probably bought a focus with a "H" emblem and "Civic Si" :-) hehe... tell them they gave you a lemon. A real Civic Si doesn't ever have problems ;-) ;-)

Ditto on that, especially the auto shade. If you let your dash get cooked by the sun, you're letting the air ducts get cooked, too, and it'll take that much longer for the a/c's air to actually still be cool by the time it reaches the cabin.

If I can't find shade to park under, I'll do my best to park facing the sun, and I'll put a sunshade in my windshield. It seems like less sunlight gets into the car that way.

I just remember the day years ago when windshield sunshades came on the market and my mom bought one to use in our '75 Plymouth Valiant. The day before, we hated the thought of getting into our sun-baked car; the first time we got in with the sunshade, it was like a revelation.
