On my way back from lunch today, some 17 year old kid driving a big Chevy truck with a trailer failed to keep his brain running while driving and rear-ended me. It was probably only a 15MPH hit, but it's enough to damage my hatch too. Here's a pic. http://www.scc.net/~ben/accident1.JPG

Where I'm going with this is aftermarket parts. I'm not much into body kits and I don't think I want a whole kit, but are there any aftermarket bumpers that are nicer than the stock one? Also with the hatch, is my only aftermarket option the carbon fiber one? How's the fit/finish on that? Thanks in advance for your comments/opinions.

i say a BC2 bumper would look really nice. or a CTR.

i think the only aftermarket would be a CF hatch - no reason to make anything else. you could always get a CF one and paint it. fit and finish ive heard really good thigns about, VIS is a good company.

The hatch looks like it is definitely repairable. As for the bumper you could go JDM but I don't think the JDM bumpers come in Silver so you would have to get it painted. You could always find someone selling their stock one or get a quote from a dealer on a new one. Just some thoughts !

you wont be happy w/a BC fibercrap bumper (if you don't have a stock one to put back when the fiber breaks) if you get a check have them order a JDM bumper, should be the same price as the dealer would want for a USDM, it needs paint anyway....

dont buy fiberglass.. it will look worse then it does now.. go JDM CTR or stock.. and the carbon hatch is never going to fit like stock so i say leave it alone..

thanks for the quick replies guys, I'll take a look at the CTR bumper and I'll have to wait and see if they think my hatch repairable or if it needs to be replaced. Anyone happen to have a stock satin silver bumper for sale? ;)

Did the 17 year old cry when you threatened to kill him?

Naw, but I was pretty pissed right after the accident. He was very aplogetic right away and admitted that he wasn't paying attention, he said he was trying to read a mapbook. There happened to be cops at the intersection looking for something in the ditch, and one of them actually witnessed the accident. Not often that there's cops around when you need them, but it was nice this time.

Wow that sucks. I got cut off by an F-350 today turning onto Portland in downtown. I was in the far left turn lane, he was in the middle turn lane, he turns into my lane, almost smashing me into some parked cars. I hate truck drivers in Minnesota :yellm: Good luck with the repairs.

Oh yeah, come out and autocross (http://www.mnautox.com) sometime :winkm:
