View Full Version : S2K or turbo-K?

I'm deployed in the sand right now and will be coming back in a month or so with over $5K burning a hole in my pocket. Here's the question:

01-02 S2000: would keep about the same payment per month but with a pimp-ass ride. Also staying loyal to the brand I so love.

Current car: '03 Si, slap on Cybernation's new Stage-I kit as soon as Guardian is released...(hopefully soon...)

'03 350Z: averaging about $28,000 with low miles, payment maybe an extra hundred or so... nothing I can't manage.

What do you guys think?

I voted for the S2k. Love the 9,000 redline and 6 spd.

I vote the EP with a turbo. I think it's more practical. I would love to have an S2000 but I would only have it as my weekends car other wise is not that practical.

Good luck my friend!

I look at it this way... whats you ultimate goals?? There are Z's out there in upwards of 600WHP. the EP will get to about 300 before MAJOR mods to the motor. The S2000 would be fun..but after minor bolt ons.. mods are VERY expensive...but there are ones out there that are boosted over 400whp. Its all about what you want!

$5000 to work w/. I say go w/ the stage 2 and blow slightly modded Z's and s2000's out the water.

i'd say go with turbo because its more unique

Obviously you'll have some biased opinions here but.... who cares! I'm one of them!!

I voted turbo ep as well for basically the same reasons as everyone else. You'll be unique and have a sleeper appearance going for you. You hardly see a turbo ep, no one will expect it!

I'de have to say for me it would be a toss up between the 350z and the s2000. I would go test drive both and see which one you like better. I think the 350z has more hp potential, but the s2000 may edge the z out in handling. The boosted ep sounds like a good idea and all, but when you compare to your other options I would deffinitly have to pick this last. Reasons being:

1. Lower resale value.

2. I highly doubt the ep could ever compete in handling with the other two mod for mod.

3. Street legal hp won't even come close to the other two.

Haha, what a common misconception.

It's a drivers race. Period.

Also, depends on the model of Z.

haha the Z definitely isn't the shit.
nice car, but not the end all be all.

That said.. 5k + your EP isn't going to get you a great s2k. I've been looking for about 8 months and have decided to boost.

i agree, with the s2k and 350 u at least dont have to go thru the hassle of smog and s2k and 350 r nice rides to rock

id personally choose the s2k, the brand new ones look pretty secksi. I see too many 350's around...at least around my area

Thanks for the great feedback everybody!! Yeah, I never really considered the Z until I started looking at Greddy's/Vortech's dyno plots. uuuhh--uh-uh..oohh.. excuse me... I just messed myself. But anyhow, the S2K is just as sexy as it gets in my opinion. But I'll always have love for my EP... Decisions... decisions...

-Walking out to my car from a party for a beer run with the hottest girl I've ever met-

her: "how far is the store"
me: (in pimp mode) "right around the corner baby" (yeah!)
-walking up to set of cars-
her: "Which one's yours?"
me: (click...) Dwuit-dwuit!!(flash-flash) (pimp mode again.... yeah!)
her: "Oh.... (......dramatic pause......) you drive a minivan?!?"
me: "You're lucky you're so beautiful."

Question 1, Will you ever need 4 seats or a good amount of space?

Question 2, What kind of climate do you live in? How often do you see snow, rain, or is it abnormally hot etc?

Question 3, Do you ever plan on Drag racing, autocrossing, or running this car at open track events. If so which events?

Question 4, Have you looked into insurance costs? I'll put a safe guess out there that the s2k and the Z will be quite ab it more expensive than the EP.

Observation 1, RWD is much more fun than FWD :)

Observation 2, In your beer run senerio or just about any other one the s2k and the Z are going to nab you more bitches than the EP will :D

Observation 3, If you looking for an s2k I suggest looking at 02+ as they got the rear glass window which is much nicer than the plastic ones and a better stereo which is a nice bonus

i say if you dont live anywhere where it snows, then get the S2000, if you live where it snows then get the turbo...... asuming you even drive the ep3 in the winter that is =) but whatever you do stay with honda/acura!!!!!! :shadesm:

Yeah, I live in NC right now & it's got all four seasons. I'm going to go with the S2K (kind of knew that all along) but it was cool to see what all of you thought about it.

Thanks Everybody!

Hey, anyone in the market for a set of:

-Tein Basic Full Coilovers
-Magnaflow Cat-back
-ICW Split 6-spoke 17's (look identical to Type-R rims but 6-spoke)

350z

it would takes a very skilled driver to drive the s2000 to its full potential. most people aren't very skilled drivers and would be able to drive the 350z faster than the s2000. and if it was going to be my only car i would prefer a hard top 350z over a convertible. i do like the way you sit in the s2000 but i think i would get tired of it after a while. and have they added tilt to the steering wheels on the s2000?

i would go turbo, if ur gonna spend around 28k on a z, y not gor for an sti or evo? both are fast awd turbo cars and would eat z's for dinner, plus u can find some for under 28k, some around 26k, anyways, i wouldnt consider an s2k after driving one last week i was highly dissapointed, sure they look cool and everything but that fuckin car couldnt get out of its own way, handling was decent i guess, but straight line, or even twisty speed for that matter, they suck PERIOD. now again this is imo, but it felt more or less like a dx that revved to 9k, big fuckin deal. maybe it has to do with driving the turbo ep3 and sti which anhialates s2crappies like red headed step children, but i dunno man. just my .02

I can't fault your choice of the NSX my friend as they are simply superb but when you see a heavily modified Skyline,32,33 or 34 then you realise how special they are aswell but in a completely different way, but, no-one could ever call a Skyline crappy was the point i was getting at ;)

I'd have to respectfully disagree with you concerning the Z. Sure, 28K is a lot but in my opinion both the STi & Evo are somewhat asthetically lacking. (ie. box-on-wheels) Yeah yeah, AWD and all but that's not everything and that's why I'm not even considering either one of them. I really try not to hate on anyone's car, but the S2k has some of the sexiest lines out there, especially with a drop, rims & a clean, molded body kit. Same goes for the Z. Most would disagree (minus those on this forum) but i think the EP is hot too. IMO, the s2k has the best of both worlds. And concering the -lack- of power as you put it, there isn't much on the road that could keep up with a supercharged/turbo'd S and look as good doing it. Just my .02

well when ur right, ur right. i definatly have to agree, cosmetically, an s2k cant be beat, the line r smooth and sexy, true, but u really cant compare, i mean, everyone has their own opinons, yes, an s2k looks good, yes, a z looks good, but r they fast? no. simple. i mean, looks r good and all, im just saying, again, imo, i would rather havesomething fast than look good, or in my case, like an sti or evo, (which i think look damn good i know most dont) and can run too boot. again, my .02 :D
