No it's not odd.
Just use the locking nut that came with the shift knob.

the locking nut would make sense if you could fit the locking nut and the shift knob on at the same time, it just doesn't work all that great with the skunk2 knob, i will be selling my 5 speed Skunk2 knob in a bit i already have my team voodoo knob on :) it's friggin awesome!

What he said :)

I had the same problem at first but then I realized I wasn't using the locking nut properly. You won't screw it down all the way when you use the nut just so that it will be numbered correctly. Just make the numbers right side up, and then twist the locking nut and the knob in opposite directions and it will lock in place. I did this 5 months ago and it has never come loose.

How do you like the skun2 Shift knob? I ordered it last week along with a Type R boot. Is it a nice addition? and does it have a decent feel to it?

It's a great knob, good feel. The main selling point on it though is that it's weighted (440 grams I believe?). It makes throwing the shifter into gear so much easier and smoother, you won't be disappointed.

just some word of caution, when parking under the sun cover the shift knob or else it'll be freakin hot
