View Full Version : Progress Rear Sway clearance, which axle-back?

I've got the stocker muffler on right now with the Progress Sway/Tie Bar + Grey's endlinks. Now at low speeds, I get a little bit of clunking noises.

Has anybody with a stock muffler/Progress sway been able to silence this?

If not, which axle-back mufflers clear the Progress setup with no noise?

I know that the magnaflow catback has plenty of clearance for the rear sway

Yes it hits the stock exhaust, more like the exhaust piping rests on the swaybar. When you read about this problem you are probably thinking it's going to be so annoying that you would want to remove it. Atleast that is what I thought, but after getting one it really isn't a big deal. The only time I hear any slight amount of noise is when the car starts. To fix this though just go to a muffler shop and either get smaller rubber hangers or modify the metal hangers. You could probably even do this yourself if you get smaller rubber hangers. Just remove the stock ones and replace them and you are done.

You must have the swaybar installed wrong then, because I definitely had enough clearance with this exhaust. About 3" or so of clearance. I can send some pics to you of how the bar should be if you want just to make sure.

bump.

Can we revive this thread with a current (post 2004) list of exhausts that will hit or will not hit the Progress Rear Sway (22mm and DC5 adj 24mm)? I know there are a ton of people here with this rear sway bar. Share the knowledge!

who cares about rattles anyways. gut your car all the way so it's just so crazy noisy inside the car that you have to turn on the radio full blast to hear it
 lol

my Progress sway bar doesn't touch the skunk2 catback (regular, not the 70mm) when the car's motor is off. when the car is running, I dunno

You can just hose-clamp some large vaccum tubing to the bar and let the muffler sit on the bar. I insulated the top of my stock muffler to stop it from hitting the car. The clearances might change from car to car with a lower suspension.
