very good write up!

I just have to add, it would be BEST to NOT let the glove box hang wide open by those two arms that are connected to the tabs.

The two plastic arms (that are connected to the tabs which are bolted in) are strong but, any good jerk or bump and those arms will snap in two. At that point, the only real way to fix it would be to buy a new glove box. (because its part of the mold for the glove box)

I had the experience of breaking one. Ghetto-rigging it was not easy. :D

So i just called honda and they said 68.00 for the two filters....anyone know why they are THAT much, and what will I be sacrificing by spending 20 at a local autoparts store?? Any cheap recommendations---ie, well working, new rental car smelling filters??

thats wayyyy too much for those filters. You can find them for like...20 bucks total from online dealers. or other places. search around. :)

Did this today - went to Autozone and bought some Bosch filters (part P3711) for $25 (two come in a box). Took about 5 minutes to do (took so long because I was unfamiliar with the little hooks that hold the glove box in place). The Bosch filters look exactly like the OEM ones - I bet Bosch is the OEM manufacturer.

05-08-2008, 02:26 PM
Actually if you look carefully on the Bosch filters they say "micronAir." micronAir makes it for Bosch. But it's the EXACT same as OEM Honda filters. That's the way to do it -- Autozone, Kragen or Pepboys. Kragen was a bit cheaper for me. But still much better than the ridiculous amount dealerships want to charge.

honda canada quoted me 85 dollars just to replace one......

i went on ebay bought the service / shop manual.......best 12.50 i ever spent.....and found it in the manual

i bought mine off ebay "TYC" is the brand name for 35 dollars shipped to my house......and it came with two

it was quite obvious that it was never changed......it was darker than the pic below and there were a bunch of leaves caught in the filter.....

this job was so easy i had 5 beers (canadian beers) and a couple shots of tequila in me and it still took me less than 3 minutes...

IMPORTANT!!! (TAKE YOUR TIME PUTTING THE FILTER BACK IN)
its a little finicky to get back in (partly because of the 5 beers) but once it lines up perfect it slides right in.

CHEERS!

It's the same as the left. You remove the left and the right comes out. Then just put it back in reverse order. Very easy. ;)

So are both filters located on the glove compartment side of the car?

I suggest adding a thin sheet of carbon filter to the cabin filter as well http://www.amazon.com/Holmes-HAPF60-Purifier-Replacement-Enhanced/dp/B000063SKE

reason why its good is it because it filters out odors as well as small particles. I use it for my air filter in my room and it works great. When i change my cabin filters ill be using a carbon filter as well.

thanks for the awesome write up!

Ha, that's nothing. Until a month ago or so, I didn't know that there were two filters in there side-by-side. I hadn't changed the one further in the dash since it was new in 2002...

Squidward
05-01-2010, 07:40 AM
So are both filters located on the glove compartment side of the car?

They are side by side. First the left one pulls out, then you slide the second filter into the space where the first one came from. Then it pulls out just like the first.

I sprayed my filters with Endust before I installed them. It's a cheap way to make them grab the microscopic bits better. Works with home HVAC filters too.

Just popped my out here at work.... the top folds were coated with dried leaves and debris! And I've less than 45K!

Everyone, you'd better check!

EDIT!

I pulled out the second one....didn't know the two were side by side.... HOLY JESUS! So on the way home today I noticed how much better the a/c was with the extra air..and that was with 1 of the two old ones still in there (just went out and pulled the second out)... OMG!

I'd certainly recommend to everyone you change this once a year just like you change your air filter for the engine.. Regardless of need. I'm adding it to my normal maintenance routine!

Awesome write-up! Thanks for posting this!!!

I would like to thank the thread starter for this write up.
After reading the post yesterday, I went checking my cabin filter.
All these while, I could sometime smell something when i turned on the A/C.
GUess what?

I dont even have the filter.
I suspected the previous owner of my car had took it out and never replace it. :(
I wonder what might have stuck inside my aircond now

I've never done this before until now, never though it would make that much of a difference.... after doing this, I got rid of some smells, and the airflow was 2-3 times greater... this is something that must be done yearly, or ever 10,000 miles I guess.
