Is this normal? My gears sound kind of whiny--all of them except 5th and maybe 4th. What do I need to check? Clutch fluid level? That doesn't seem right. How do I make sure the gears have enough lube or whatever.

I've never had a manual before--please help. I don't want to fry something so I'd rather check it to be safe.

thanks,

Since I can't physically hear the noise, I'd say first check your oil level. If it's good, then it's normal for the gears to sound whiny, this is a high-strung 4 cylinder. :)

Let me know what you find.

It's the stock supercharger !

I've notice it too, I think it's fine

The oil level is OK. I really only hear it under 4K RPMs. Any faster than that and the wind or engine noise drown it out.

CgSi, are those eyes or boobies above your avatar?

you have a 4.764 final drive gear ratio. gear whine is a part of life.

On my last civic si (4.40 FD) there was also gear whine.

typically, any front driver manual with anything much over a 4.0 final drive will exhibit gear whine - at least if it's a quiet motor like ours.

I don't mind it, I just want to make sure it's not abnormal or hurting anything. I don't notice it too much until I put the clutch in... and it gets a lot more quiet.
