I heard using armor all is bad for the rubber hose in the engine bay. So How do I make it nicely black and shiny again?

soapy water and a clean cotton towel. yeah i wouldnt use armor all either, i think it will make it crack over time.

My buddy used an enamel based protector once & it made everything sticky until it dried. After that, most of the rubber turned white/hazy, looked like shit. KleenFlow PWD lubricant is really good also. I've also used Graphite lubricant, the same stuff you use on the weather stripping to keep it from drying out.

Clean with a brush and soapy water. Then use a silicon based protectant.

I heard that the tire wet product can cause rot in rubber if it is done too often and not properly! :meek: I would stick to a silicone based product, I like to take silicone lube and rub it into/on the hose. It works well for me, and looks nice to. I prefer the silicone spray, the kind you use and spray on the weather stripping in the door to keep the seals from freezing in the winter!

303 is great and its cheap too, or Vinylex. I've heard that some silicone based dressings are not good for rubber and may cause it to degrade over time. 303 and vinylex have UV protection (so your dash wont fade) and leave a nice matt finish, not overly shiny. Less is more, apply the dressing, let it set for a minute, then wipe away any excess so the surface wont attract dust.
