I want to change my oil on my new Si, but there is a couple of questions that I need answered before I do it that I was hopeing someone could answer for me.

1. Does K&N make oil filters for our cars yet??
2. Do you have to replace the drain plug bolt everytime you change your oil like in the older Civics??
3. Does Valvoline make 5w-20 oil, and if not who else would you reccomend???

Be careful with the type of filter you use. Honda designed new filters for the K series motors, becuase the original style filter (which is used on almost every Honda from '88-present, and will fit onto the K series motor) MAY contact the right inner CV joint and get a hole nibbled in it.

I'll be using Honda filters for the time I've got my SiR. When I get the Type R, I'll be using Honda filters in it too.

As for the original questions:

1. Dunno
2. Not the bolt, but you'll need to replace the little crush washer every time. Who told you to replace the bolt every time???
3. Valvoline? Gah. Castrol Syntec 5W30 for me.

you dont have to change the drain plug, the only thing you need to change is the o-ring on the plug, the honda dealership should have them for .15 cents or so, but i did change my oil and trans fluid plugs for the SPOON ones they are awsome they are about $50.00, go ahead and use a synthetic oil, and for the filter i would use a hamp filter honda aftermarket parts), they are about $10.00 or so, that sure beats the k&n filters, thats the set up im going with, :D i worked at a honda dealership and and did that sort of stuff all day everyday. :D

"crush washer"?

Is that a Honda thing. This is my first Honda and I've never heard of changing the washer on other cars.

Does this apply to the rest of the Civics too? I change the oil in my girlfriends Civic and never replaced any washer. It hasn't lost any oil either. Not like my car has and she's had it almost a year.

Thanks.

10,000 for a change? If you aren't driving hard. There is a real good section in your owners manual( for those who can read) describing driving habits and correlates that to when to change your engine oil.

I drive a lot so I change mine every three grand. I also use 5w30 because it silences that valve clatter.
