okay my engine light was on a few days ago...i had it checked out at autozone and popped out this code: P1259 VTEC System Malfunction...so i cant rev pass 4k..seems like a fuel cut off sort of thing...my oil aint low and just did a oil change a week ago (could it be the 5W20 oil that im using)...and after driving it for awhile the engine light turns off...then a few days later it pops up again...and sometime later turns off...what could be the problem here any ideas?? btw i have 107,500 miles on her

Vtec sensot, screen to vtec sensor. Get a new one soon its not one of those wait errors it will toast your motor. Or you can just wait and then buy a better motor and be happier. :mtongue:

That was one of my thoughts on it The Coil plug or Spark Plug, but I would start with the IGN aspects first since its an off and on thing.

It could just be a faulty Spark Plug when was the last time you changed them.

Thats the code I had when I blew my A3. I am actually using my A3 VTEC Solenoid from my blown A3 on my K20A swap. The mechanic from the shop who did my swap just cleaned it. There is like a screen thingy inside that you need to clean. Good Luck!

That sensor is on the timing chain cover front a cylindrical sensor plugged in near the exhaust cam would be. Its about $200 bux from my dealer, mine was replaced last year.
I dont have a photobucket acct so I cannot place a pic at the moment.

Before the site went down there were quite a few of these CELs. So here is the scoop:
There is on the front side of the cylinder head behind the idler pulley is a small cover plate with 2 bolts that holds the VTC strainer. Inspect that first and clean if necessary. If it has to be cleaned then more than likely you have to replace the oil and filter too.
The one on the timing chain cover facing the passenger side wheel with PNC on it is the VTC OIL CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE
The ones circled on the rear of the cylinder head is the VTC SOLENOID VALVE.
All of these are related to your error. PM me and I can email you the pages from the manual or Google EP3 manual and look up pages 11-120 thru 11-129.
