View Full Version : What engine setup is best?

hey everyone so i just came into a little bit of money im tryin to find out a good setup so i want some feed back and opinions, this is what im looking at....

-Brian Cower STG2 Cams(or something better???)
-BCRH
-Kpro
-Injen CAI
-Skunk2 stock size valves
-Skunk2 retainers and springs
-RBC ITM

if im missing anything let me know and also give me some ideas on what you guys are running and how you like it.

ive never done a swap and i dont wanna go through the hassel of tryin to get a good motor thanks for the advice but i would rather keep the motor i have and just add to, now i know that a3 head flows like ass, so that will be in the works and i will be swaping in a new head

get a k24a1 head swap + the mods you listed above

id also throw in a clutch and flywheel..and a tune to top it off

can you swap the head? even if you dont swap the head and build the valve train you still need to pull it. its easier to swap the engine. btw i have a engine and head swap, k24/20
just get a better engine you will make more power for not much more money then what you want to get.look at a k20a2/z1/z3,or k24a2,or k24a1/k20a2/z1/z3 frank. k24a1/a4 straight up is a joke NA

get a engine from PapiTuyo326 good reliable shit with good prices and fast shipping

Depends on what you want in the future. If you just want it for a DD and nothing more and you know you might sell it for something better later on. I wouldn't spend more than 200 bucks in aftermarket performance, BUT If you plan on keeping it for a long time I would strongly recommend a swap, then start modding that. Cause If you mod the a3, your always gonna want more more kicking yourself in the butt wishing you did the swap first.

don't buy any mods and use the money towards the loan on your car. pay off the car first and then start modding. just my two cents.

cars paid off bro 14000 cash; so what you guys are sayin is that the mods listed wouldnt be good for a DD, just to add a little more PEp??? i dont need a lot of Hp/Tq i just want something thats got a little more to it thats all i cant seem to come to doing a full swap maybe the head but not full swap

do the swap man trust me...i was running a Cn turbo on my a3 and now i have a k20a2 ( i realize you are talking all motor and i am boosted) but the difference is night and day...there are also cheaper swaps you can do but throwing money into the a3 is about as useful and an umbrella with holes in it

why go skunk2 with bc cams? better off going with bc everything. oh and if u stay with the a3 the rbc is useless to u. i have an injen 3" for sale tho...

a complete swap is not ur only option, granted it gives u a better starting point but it is not cheap. from corsport its $4200.00, i know u can peice somthing together for alot less but buyer beware.

piece what together? the engine. you can get a k20a2 for around 2700 shipped and that is all you need for the swap, well kpro or prb ecu. you can run your 5speed if your not looking to spend much. but nowadays you could probably come close to a straight up trade for your 5 for a 6speed off a boosted rsx.

how much for the intake? is it CAI or SRI?? and does it come with everything?

LOL yea i was thinkin that, but i would like to try and stay NA but thats prob the way im gonna be goin, still cant seem to do a whole swap, you think boostin would be ok on 42k mi.? you think i would have any problems?

You shouldnt have any issues with that mileage and adding a JRsc. Barely broken in if it has been maintained.

I would "either" go with the JRsc or swap for a K24A2 longblock with I/H/E. Both need Kpro, and will be similar in power output.

if i do go boost should i be ok with the race kit? or should i go street kit?

don't waste time going all motor on the a3. if you don't want to swap then just boost the a3.

NOBODY does street kit anymore. The only one that I even see talked about is the race kit. Don't waste time/money on the S.

Go big or go home. I don't think building the a3 is really worth the time, effort, money.

k20a2 swap, or turbo.

I'd personally take the a2 swap =)

You could also consider JRSC-R..

ok..... so this is what ive decided to do let me know what you guys think.... im gonna be goin with Skunk2 sgt1 cams so then i dont have to do the whole vavletrain, and the JRSC, and BCRH or DC

don't waste cash camming the a3. the gains aren't worth it imo. either boost the a3 or swap it.

K24/a2 best engine setup i seen run hard by far it has to be the best engine setup for NA

yea but after reading some of the threds stg1 cams with the JRsC is supposed to be a pretty good setup
