im having a hard time deciding what new tires to get, im going to be replacing the stock 195/60/15. i dont want the speedo to be way off so im looking at getting 205/50/25 or 205/55/15.

the two tires im debating between are the Yokohama S.drive in either size or the Falken Azenis RT-615 which would have to be 205/50/15 (i dont think they make them in 205/55/15)

anybody have experience with these two tires?

also which tire size would not alter speedos "accuracy" drastically

The Azenis will grip better, but not last as long as the S Drive. I was looking at both of those and ended up going with the Kumho Ecsta SPT, to give you another option. Seems like it's a good balance of grip/handling and wear.

Can't speak for Azenis but I've just got the S-drives. I wanted to go with the Kumhos SPT but ended up with the S-Drives. No regrets so far. Oh, I'm on 205/50/16

I'm thinking S.Drive or maybe even Falken ZE912 for wet performance (obviously no snow).

What's the typical lifetime of those S.Drives?

Check this (http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html).

205/55/15 or 215/55/15 but the stock wheels are likely not wide enough for 215.

I'd go with the 205/55/15.

205/50/15 and the speedo would be off by 4.7%. you don't want anything more than +/- 1%.

i would stay away from the extreme performance summer tires for a daily since they werent really meant for that. if you must put a summer tire on your stock wheels, look into the uhp (ultimate high performance summer) category in 205/55/15.

So i guess what im saying is the Yokohama would be a better choice that the Falken unless you don't mind the shorter tire life and road noise.

The 205/50/15s will increase the wheel gap as well unless you lower the car even more.

Yeah, 205/55/15 is the obvious choice for tire size here.

Unfortunately, none of the higher performance tires (RT-615's, Z212's, etc.) come in that size :mfrown:

The Yokohamas should do you plenty good though...

Yeah, I have no experience with them, but have heard nothing but good things about them.

They are pretty cheap too.

Check out www.discounttire.com for good prices :msmile:

I have 205/55/15 BF Goodrich G Sports on mine. They are great! I went through the stock Michellins in 1 1/2 years and did about the same to the Kumhos Ecsta 712s. The G Sports have not only provided more grip than the other two sets but they have also lasted longer. I am going on 3 years! They will probably need to be replaced in the next 6 months.

I don't have experience with either...but i'd recommend the Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position...its a direct replacement of the S03 pole position which I use to race with and it grips very well. The RE050A PP is used on our s2k race car which grips even better than the s03's. If you have money to spare and you won't be using em in the winter, you can also get the RE01R...which are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! cheers

car is not finished and has been sitting in the garage for past two season after a plug dropped into cylindar...didn't have time to get around finishing the car after getting new pistons and fixing block, but so far as of now its got a rollcage, supercharger, tein RS coilovers (which i think was replaced by another name...idk), comptech header, mugen exhaust, mugen driver seat, takata harness, exedy hypersingle clutch....a couple other things i can't remember from the top of my head.

i still have a comptech rear diff housing i bought for my boyfriend as well as a rear diffuser and carbon fiber driveshaft we still need to put in sometime this summer when we find the time. I'm waiting until i get a welder to make him an exhaust cuz the mugen ain't cuttin it. it still has a LONG way to go before its able to go on the track...oh well

Yeah Tammy that S2k you have sitting in the garage is HOT! Was sad to see it just chilling in your garage when Tracy and I came over to visit.... Can't wait to see it in action once you get it fixed!

I would have to say spend the extra amount on some Bridgestone RE01Rs! AWESOME tire with more grip than you'll know what to do with. For a street tire they are probably the best bang for the buck. However they are coming out with a new tire, the RE11R which is going to replace the RE01R this year. The RE11R posted a time 1 second faster on Tsukuba than the RE01!!!!

Yep. Definately recommend the RE11R's. Supposed to make a debut in the US sometime this year.

that's strange.. a comptech supercharge on a race car
might as well invest in a bore out and keep the balanced distribution w/that money
since u are already in need of "new pistons and fixing block"

I'm with the crowd suggesting that you look at BFG G-Sports. I'm in love with mine, I don't ever plan on changing brands after driving on them for 18 months now.
