I did the same and love it! part # is most likely:
G326011
but these #'s were on it also:
2995MK 01 40N 264/05 B 15
I got mine at pep boys for like $15,only thing is you need the ball pivot mount that wont be with this strut. I just looked through others that had it and opened both and after "comparing" them I put them back in the "right" packaging then paid and :bolt:

:blah:don't be a dumbass disclosure:mangel:

Are you only running one? If so, how does it hold up? I know our hoods are light, especially if you have a CF hood. How is it when closing the hood? Smooth? Still sit flush?

Yep only one, holds up great (with a CF hood) it goes all the way to it's vertical position or I can open it like halfway(balancing act).people were using 2 on stock hoods to be safer but you have to cut a piece of the cowl on the driver side (plastic vented area at winshield). when closing it the strut is fine, my cf hood has always sucked to close for some reason (possibly spring too stiff on latch, dunno) and here is how it sits closed (good) IMO

sorry about that, no the bracket was on it but the ball pivot that mounts by the headlight, was with a different strut, I think(not sure) the strut's for like an isuzu lift glass or something.

i rememeber an old post about a DIY hood dmaper. I have been looking for it every around my area. I think it was a Sachs Stabilus, SG326011, but none of the auto stores here carry them. i will check for the item # you posted..

Anyone know how well this works with a CF hood?

just noticed that this has a bracket for the hood area where the bolts are and another bracket where it is on the frame...

the post that was up before, the guy drilled a hold on the frame and used a ball nut where the end of the damper just pops on...

do you have any close up pics of the bracket areas?

thanks for the hook up. just finished mine. the strut comes from a honda passport 99-02. bought strut at autozone ($19.99). does not come with bracket or ball stud, but picked them up at salvage yard.

Which ones do you have? The one for the ball socket or the ones with a bracket for the hood and frame? interested. pm sent

My SACHS strut from Pep Boys didnt come with the bracket, so mine is a custom piece from CFR plastic. My hood popped up a bit too... until i swapped the stock hood bolts with button head allen bolts to lower the bolt head profile. In my case, the bolt head was hitting the strut body when closed... forcing the hood up in the corner. Watch for the ABS lines too. My strut came really close to them.

just wanted to bump this to the top :thumbu:

i wanted to confirm that the sachs strut, (part no SG326011) is the correct piece needed to install on our cars; it can be found at Pep Boys :thumbu: the bracket that came with mine was rather thick, so you will need a longer bolt to fasten it to your hood. the ball stud needed for the pivot on the headlight support can be found through mcmaster carr, part number 8412k11. it comes with the ball socket that the ball stud would pivot on, so to remove it requires either a bit of brute force with a set of pliers to separate them, or a small set of snap ring pliers (guess which way i went :mtongue:) the ball stud threads right in next to the rubber damper on the passenger side :thumbu: if i had a camera id take pictures, but i dont :mfrown: hope this helps for anyone thats curious though

i was reading the thread and was thinking about closing it... since it was from 2008, but with your information and some updated pictures, you may be on to something. :-)

that works for me :thumbu:

i did this mod out of necessity--that hood prop gets in the way of other more important things :msmile: i remembered sometime ago someone did this mod before, but there was no definitive answer to what parts were necessary. i figured i do my best to try and fill in the gaps

2004ep3hatch has some additional pictures of the ball stud, but those can be identified off the online mcmaster carr catalog :thumbu:

i would recommend it  its never a bad thing to allow for more hood space in our already space constrained engine bays

which was mentioned. the ball stud can be found here
http://www.mcmaster.com/#8412k11/=b8flkb
which was also mentioned. rip the ball stud out of the socket with some pliers and a little brute force and you have the piece you need. worked plenty fine for me

I ordered the SG326011 on ebay and it did not come with the bracket piece, just a ball on both ends. The seller is trying to tell me this is all it comes with, but did your strut come with the angled bracket?

usedep3
07-12-2012, 08:43 PM
the angled bracket does not come with it. you have to 'source'/fab it on your own

gettheledout
07-13-2012, 08:49 AM
Any tips on sourcing a bracket? I'm working away from home and can't fab anything right now. Also, my shock came with two of the ball studs with threaded studs that fit into the sockets on both ends of the shock. Is there a reason you need the ball stud from mcmasters?
