When I added the Z3 head to the A2 shortblock, I went ahead and added Hytechs oil pan baffle.

It goes in rather easily. You dont need to have it welded in. Just follow the directions and drill holes to use the included screws and nuts along with some UltraFlangeII sealant. They have never leaked on me at all!

Here is a pic showing how the oil pump sits in the pan baffle.

Sweet sauce, looks expensive though. Looks like it has hinges on those little doors.

But I dont ever see a drop in oil pressure driving up here in the mountains where I used too without the baffle.

The reason for this modification is to maintain a supply of oil to the oilpump pickup in VERY tight turns.

how do you run this now

Doug kinda covered this but it keeps the oil from sloshing around and keeps it where it needs to be to get picked up by your oil pump...specifically during tight hard turns.

I almost would have been tempted to tack it in place instead of bolting that fucker in...I don't like putting holes in my oil pan.lol.

?

Are you referring to my going with a RBC oil pump on the K24 build? if so, I am going to "make" one for the Z3 pan and pump. They are constructed of nothing more than simple sheet aluminum and hinges available at any aviation supply. I will follow the basic Hytech design and make templates out of poster board first. I just have to find a aluminum cutting blade for the band saw this weekend.

I have never had any leak from those screws. And if there was any possible chance of leaking, then the RP oil I used would have found it's way out!

FAR less burnoff, less oil in the catchcan with a slightly higher, more stable oil pressure when at operating temps.

I have a little magic man with a snow shovel in my oil pan preventing the oil from moving around too much. Much better then that hytech garbage IMO.

someone in the Canadian forums from Ottawa (damn i forget his name) was selling the pan and baffle for 1K$.......... eek.

he was the one with the BCstg3 cams in his A3, pushing 190hp.

you can look into Accusump as well. a different kind of oiling protection. it's a separate oil reservoir that dumps oil when pressure drops to a determined psi. You can also activate it with a switch to oil your motor for cold starts.

He was selling the Hytech pan, baffle and oil pump. I shutter everytime I hear hytech; however, if it's not hytech or IPS . . . it's not going into the motor. Those are the only 2 companies I trust in choosing my cams.
