Well this is what happens if you leave bugs on your hood for about 6 months in baking florida sun. I tried bug wash, bug sponge, bug remover, clay bar, wax. The hood is smooth, just not pretty :mfrown: I kick myself for not washing it.

Any1 have any ideas how to get it out? Thanks guys

bug guts contain acid and other chemicals that oxidize and eat away at paint.
it feels smooth, but the clear coat has lost its adhesion with the paint.
option 1 involves heat, aka a very fast buffer with oil as a lubricant.
You run the risk of ruining the rest of the paint, even if you do manage to get those spots out.
option 2 is to sand the clear off and re spray.
option 3 is a carbon fiber hood which you can buy from me for 350.

A detail shop in your area would give you the best advice. I'm sure they've all seen something similar to this before.

damn man good luck with that. try all the cheap stuff first and then if need be paint it or get a cf hood. from now on you need to at least take your car to a hobo to wash it for a dollar.

Funny part is that it was around this time last year when I got the bugs on there. Going to Disney from Miami during love bug season.....horrible :mfrown:

Im gonna go around to a few body shop and see what they quote me to fix it. If it's 2 much, my friend knows a guy who used to detail, and I'll see what he says. 3rd option....CF Hood , but that would cut into my header fund :mfrown:

when it rains every other day, you lose motivation to wash it knowing that its gonna be trashed again tomorrow. I just found out that I have a neighbor that washes cars for $10, so I'm probably gonna start using him.

I agree bro. Living in Florida  I wash my car and next day it'll only sprinkle, or I drive through some sprinklers. I always check the 7day forecast b4 I wash my car.

fuck it! its just a car. I'll wash it when I'm damn good and ready. its not worth it to me to bust my ass cleaning it up for 1 days worth of being clean. I don't have to deal with road salt or pterodactyl shit, so its just road grime. its not gonna hurt it. when my sister washed mine, it looked like it did back when I washed it in september, nice and shiny!:mangel:

No kidding man, I was about to say the same. We are just getting over pollen season too. I've only washed my car once this whole semester.

Sometimes people are a little too serious about cars, if someone wants to waste money on their investment by letting these things happen thats their problem.

OUCH! I have an NHBP ep3 too and man is it hard to keep it clean. Maybe some kinda detail chemical or wax can take that out. check with a detail place

So what's the end result? What did your local detailers say?

just toss a cf hood on it and smash the oem hood!

Hahaha, not washing you car for 6 months makes a popular topic lol. I have not had time to go by local detailers, I usually get home from work at 8am and sleep till 2-3pm.

The more I look at it, the more it seems I might need a CF hood. If i can get a detailer to get it out for under 100 bucks, i'll do it. But if it's 200 area, I might as well get a CF hood.

05-02-2008, 06:42 PM
i would try to throw some polishing compound on there. if it dosent do the trick, maybe some rubbing compound. if STILL nada then maybe a wet sand... but at that point i would be thinkin carbon.... good luck
