is the switch mechanism itself just trash?

Its not worth 29 bucks like the OEM one thats for sure. I'm going to put it to use since I have the OEM fog switch anyways.

Mine worked fine until the little bulbs melted the button part. Needless to say it wouldn't move, but the switch inside was still good.

I installed the kit last July. The switch fit poorly (of course), so I just turned it on and then shoved it in the hole. When I finally pulled the switch out in March (almost 9 months later) it was melted, so I have no idea how long it really took.

That is why you need one of these.

*refering to Ebay switch.
It doesn't get any cheaper than that.

I agree go to to Honda and get a quality part that they stand behind

I just bought a $4 DPDT toggle switch from RadioShack, drilled a hole in the eBay switch button, and put it in the dash slot.

so why doesn't it exactly fit?

Concerning the melting problem, I'm just going to drill a couple of slots to let the heat dissipate better. hopefully that'll work

That won't be the solution because their copper etching is too thin to control the amperage from the battery. If it did, your fog harness will start to melt where you put the fuse in. This happened to me and I had to redo my own harness for it. Crappy China material.

would adding resistors by helping regulating the voltage help?

You'd need some large resistors if you're gonna sink that much current through them. It's a Band-aid solution at best - better to get a good switch and fix the problem at its source.

where can i buy an OEM switch?
i went to my local honda dealership and the parts guy told me they don't sell the switch seperately only with the kit.

will the 01-05 civic coupe/sedan switches fit and will the wiring be the same?

Get your fog switch from any Acura on-line parts site

you can by ten million ohm resistors, 1 million ohm, 500,000 ohm, 200,000 ohm, and 100,000 ohm resistors at radio shack.
Would those be big enough.

The number you have to worry about is the wattage the resistor can dissipate. Most of the small resistors are rated at 1/8 watt or maybe 1/4 watt, I think.

anyone still remember the label to these wires? I know black is ground

(I marked the first red wire with dots for my reference)

It matchs the oem layout except for useing a single ground. I posted up a thread with the layout. http://www.ephatch.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43132

So what exactly melts? the copper strips on the bottom? Is it from the light bulbs getting hot? Because I can just line the bottom of the board with consolidated electronic tin wire.
