Should I just fork out the extra money for the 6 speed?

What are the pros and cons of using a 5 speed with an a2 swap?

def. get the 6spd unless u plan to boost it. u WILL fall out of vtec after every shift.

i love having my 6spd for highway driving. 80mph = 3600rpms....not 4k lol...400 rpms makes a def. difference in noise level

Cruising at a low RPM while on the freeway is AWESOME! That alone is reason enough to get a six speed.

hell yea it is. im def. gonna appreciate that 400rpms once my buddy club pro-spec catback goes on and meets my bcrh lol she's gonna be a loud one lol

def. get the 6spd unless u plan to boost it. u WILL fall out of vtec after every shift.I know we have always said this but based on running transmission calcs and an 8800 redline in kpro for the A2, here are the RPM and speeds for the A3 transmission:
1st - 44mph @ redline
2nd - 5097rpm @ 44mph, 77mph @ redline
3rd - 6092rpm @ 77mph, 112mph @ redline
4th - 6690rpm @ 112mph, 147mph @ redline
5th - 7048rpm @ 147mph, 184mph @ redline

Based upon the torque curve crossover for the high speed and low speed cams, if you ended up with having a lower boundary of 4500 rpm or so, you should be fine and I don't think that is too unheard of. Any thoughts? Sam?

As for lowering the RPMs on the highway, adding an RSX-S 4.4 final drive drops you down to what a 6 speed has anyway. Of course I am boosted so my view is slightly skewed.

Yea U def will fall out of vtec...and that will defeat the purpose of your a2 unless you do decide to boost like shadow said but highly doubt ur gonna boost it right?

i wouldn't say highly doubt it.

to tack onto what jimmyjames is saying, alot of boosted k20a2 cars that i have seen have there vtec boundary dropped to 4500-5000rpm range. i have seen a few cars tuned like this with k-pro. i do not know the reason why per say. i am assuming to try and bring the power band more towards the middle. but if that is the case then you should be fine with a 5 speed. but it is nice to have it a little quieter when crusing at 80mph. 4k rpm seems to be the sound barrier in our car with a race header and exhaust...lol

6-speed FTW....reasons---MPG's: 'cause gas is so cheap these days and acceleration: you get through the gears faster with the 6-speed. Just a N/A opinion...

I would definitely trade someone straight up for a 6 speed...

for some reason my Greddy Evo II and DCRH is pretty quiet under 4k @ 80mph....

I liked my 5spd EP tranny over my 6spd's I've had a RSX-S04 6sp and a TSX 04 6spd. 6spd = to much shifting for me.

wouldn't a properly tuned kpro'd a2 with 5 speed give you more time in vtec... especially if you are running high comp pistons and such?

i think the rpms would lag on getting to vtec...
all motor=6speed
boost=5speed

if you have kpro you wont fall out of vtec, you can change the crossover...

What exactly are going to be your supporting modes?

Do you plan on Kpro now or stock PRB ECU? To me that would be the big factor in what tranny to run.

Spend money on A2 Swap + Kpro + light fly and clutch with 5spd + tune > Stock A2 Swap

The EP3 5spd tranny is great, and it comes free with the car.:meek:

i already have kpro/intake/header/midpipe

im thinking about finding a k24a1 bottom end.

thoughts?

worried about the 6500 redline being too low for me.

i have k-pro from my k20a3 and now i'm doing a full swap (2006 rsx type s engine). mechanic said if i use the k-pro from my k20a3, i wouldn't have any locking mechanism on reverse? meaning if the car going forward and accidently put it on reverse instead of 6th gear it will blow the tranny

i heard you can remedy the lockout by picking up a bcss.

you can wire the lockout yourself if you're using the a3 ecu. I read a how-to on it on k20a.org. I'll try and find it later tonight if I get a chance
