View Full Version : Throwing 10 CELs and major loss of power.

Last weekend I swapped an a2 into my EP. The only problem I had was an IACV CEL. About 3 days after the swap was complete the idle "cured" itself. The CEL remained on so I reset the ECU. The idle was good, no CELs so I drove it to work (friday).

Immediately after starting the car to drive home I get another CEL. I get off work at 12:30am so I couldn't do anything about it. I filled my tank at Shell and went home. Today I went to Autozone to get "the" CEL checked and it's throwing 10 codes: 2 for each cylinder misfiring and 2 "random cylinder misfires." The autozone guy said the usual: "when did you replace the plugs last?" But I know it's something more large scale than that.

The car has a major loss of power (feels like the k20a3) but idles good and the "misfires" aren't audible.

2002 Si, k20a2 with rsx-s ecu and engine harness. Acura checked my wiring job when they reprogrammed the immobilizer and said it's connected correctly.

Any ideas guys?

You have a loose ground somewheres on the engine.

I'll run out and check.

Okay you were right about the ground. The serpentine belt side ground was disconnected! But this just makes me more confused because I was making a lot more power a couple days ago and it wasn't grounded then either. I don't think grounding that wire did anything.

Now that it's brought up, how many total grounds should be in the bay? I have the tranny one, ecu and now the engine. I used to have a grounding kit but I left it off after the swap. Which do I need?

The ground that wasn't connected:

Tranny ground:

ECU ground:

Are grounds off the IM bolts required?

Any more ideas? Does it sound like bad gas?

The one I called a tranny ground comes off the battery. I'm going to be re-installing the ground kit tonight but I doubt that's my problem. :mfrown:

check that your coils are tightened down proper, also check that ur spark plugs are tightened right, (1/4 turn past hand tight), u can check ur plugs see if they are messed also u may wanna check out your timing chain, see if its a tooth off or so...

The gas station manager said it could be a clogged cat so I put my DCRH on and we'll see if that helps. It still seems like it's missing a ton of low end power.

I wouldnt follow a gas station attendants advice, unless he also works on Honda's.

I only took it as a suggestion. It didn't harm anything putting the DCRH on.

Looks like I'm going to the stealership... :mfrown:
