I got 36 mpg on the highway yesterday, with the a/c on the entire trip. I travelled 380 miles on a single tank before the reserve light was on - I could have easily gone more than 400 miles. On my trip up there, I clocked 245miles/7gals, so thats 35mpg (same thing, a/c on the entire time.) I was using 89 octane and travelling at an average 65-70mph, using cruise control of course.

You guys are getting such high mileage. I can only get 26 mpg. I average 260 miles on 10 gals. I drive 60-80 mph, with some traffic, some stop and go. some days i have a/c on and some days i just have the windows and roof open. I dive on the hilly terrain, that could be a reason I am not getting advertised 30 mpg.

its all in the way you drive the car, my guss is you run the car hard and take it to higher rpms and keep it there longer then most of the other people on this board. if you kept it at a lower rpm range you would get better gas mileage

I get low 30's most of the time and this is becuase going to work is mostly 35-45 MPH speed limit that cops love to stay around. It is better the grand am that I got rid of. This car is my better then my 1978 Mark V that gets 4 MPG with I have fun with the 460CI engine with the Holly 4 barrel carb. It burns 93 octain too with the semi hemi heads.

My EP I noticed a 1-2 MPG gain with I went over to 92 octain though.

most I've done before the low fuel light coming on is 284. I'm sure I can do 300, but 380? damn! You could've done way more than 400 if you did 380 before the light...I've noticed there's roughly 3 gallons left when the light comes on.

with low octane gas and cruising at a consistant 85 mph I get 33 mpg no problem.

XHawkeye
06-19-2003, 05:29 PM
My theory is that gas mileage drops like a rock once one passes 4k rpm. Haven't been patient enough to test my theory, driving 75 is just too slow.

My worst gas mileage was on I35 (KS - OK) bucking a strong head wind while cruising at 85. Got 23.8 mpg with no a/c. Same road, same head wind, three months later got 25.1 mpg again no a/c.

My GS-R could go between OK City and the Indian reservation gas stations north of Topeka (350 miles) on a tank no matter the direction of the wind. The Si has only made it once out of 8 tries. That was with a tail wind and with heavy cop activity reducing the average mph.

One the plus side city gas mileage is better then the GS-R ever got, 29+ with a/c on.

First car I've ever owned that got better mileage in town then on the highway. This car needs a 7 speed transmission.

Up to 18,4xx miles

JUST SO YOU GUYS KNOW, WHEN UR CRUISIN ON THE HIGHWAY OR ATLEAST OVER LIKE 35, THE A/C USES AS MUCH GAS AS HAVING ALL THE WINDOWS OPEN.

I just calculated and discover that I get something like 29mpg...and I always shift between 3.5k-6k (except on 1st)...so I guess that I'm lucky? oh, I run on 93.

What really makes me mad is seeing that we are at an all time hight in oil consumption and seeing that refineries are running at 82%... I don't think they will get the message until people start cutting back on gas usage. If we keep using it they will keep hiking up the prices.

Supposedly it is supposed to go down at the end of the year though.

It will never go down much at all, wallstreet will see to that! Also the oil companys have noticed a drop in useage in certain locals and raised the price to recoup the loss.

The oil company and wallstreet hodlums do not answer to the public, only to the stockholders and any drop in profit is not allowed.

if they do drop the price it wont make a differences because it will just go back up. i dont it seems like theres more traffic here in so.cal. i get off work around 10:00 - 10:30, and the 10 going east and west packed with cars. i was going about 30-40 mph. just filled up today too and it was a little over 50 bucks. i hate the world. lol

Agreed, it's a monopoly. Why sell oil cheap here to us when they make even more money selling it closer to the source.

I'll even pay the extra $.50 for a six-pack just b/c the more expensive place is pretty much down the street, and the cheaper place is about a round trip of 10 miles.

At a time like this is when I wish my EJ6 (1999 civic sedan) had never got stolen. I averaged 41mpg on the tank with that lovely car. The other day I just finished a the tank on my EP and got 366.5 miles on the tank, and I filled her up with 12 gallons, so that meant I did and average of 30.5MPG on that tank.

Which by the way sucks ass, considering I had to baby the motherfucker in order to get that mileage. I was shifting at like 3.3k, and was extra light footed.... I'm talking so light footed it took me like 5 second to get from a stopped position to 3.3k in 1st gear! That, and I cruised controlled the car at 60mph on the highway! All that and a sh1tty 30mpg?? I used to get that in my EJ6 when I was redlining all day!

When I babied the EJ6 I got like 48mpg at best... can I just say 50 mpg?! FOR FUCKS SAKES I MISS THAT CAR!

I just clocked 36.3 mpg by driving the speed limit to and from work this week and taking it easy on acceleration. This also included some in town driving for about 20% of the tank.

My tank read 402.9 and I had a fill of 11.1 gal.

87K on the clock, HKS intake, HFP springs.

I didn't think the EP could get that kind of mileage with mixed driving! This is up 8mpg over my average which usually includes going 10+mph over the speed limit on freeways and 5+mph on city streets, with full acceleration during on ramps, and average acceleration otherwise.

what pissed me off is there is 3 gas stations in this intersection by our house... shell, texaco and citgo/citco (whatever)... without looking because they are always the same price... pulled into shell and popped the gas door... dam near almost swiped the card but looked at the price...

IT WAS 4.19 A GALLON FOR 93!!!

the other 2 gas stations said 4.11 - man we jumped in the car quick and went to the other station across the way.

i am not looking forward to summer. who has a beater for sale?

ive been drivin the beater but mostly i just give a guy that i work with 20 bucks to pick me up on the way to work since he passes by my apartment anyway...hella cheaper then driving around in the turbo monster...that this only gets like 17mpg in the city...maybe less...tuned on the richer side to be safe

Some of you guys must have some faulty trip meters.... HOW THE FUCK ARE YOU GETTING 35+ MPG with this sh1t?

On my past tank I babied the damn thing. I'm talking about cruise controlling the car at 60 on the highway, shifting at just 3k (about 3.25k).... and on top of all that... I was extra light footed. I'm talking about it took me 5 WHOLE seconds to go from idles (1k) to about 3.3k IN FIRST GEAR!!!!! YES... THAT IS MAD LIGHTFOOTING!!!!!!

And guess what..... I got a measly 30.5 MPG after I did the calculations.

Ok so here it is.... The yellow light didn't turn on till I was 318 miles on the tank. The I drove the car on the yellow light till it was 366.5 on the trip meter. So I went and put in 87 octane (which was 3.94 1.5 weeks ago) and I filled up with just above 12 gallons. So do the math..... all the trouble for a measly 30mpg.... WTF!!!!! When i drive normal (which means not like a grandma) I get about 25-27 MPG.

That sucks ASS!!! MY EJ6 got 30 mpg when I was doing like 90-100 MPH on the highway. And when I cruised that car at 60 it did 47 MPG... YES THAT WAS MY BEST. On an average tank I got about 39-41 MPG in the EJ6 (1999 Civic sedan)
