This is not necessarily true, at least on cars with forced induction.

The red plot is with my axleback unbolted while the blue is with the stock alxeback attached (no tuning done at all). For reference, I am running the greddy kit with a 63mm test pipe/midpipe/stock axleback.

Yeah I did some research on this when I wanted to plan out an exhaust system, and unless you want a different sound (less raspy after changing out parts for aftermarket or something) there's really no "performance" excuse for changing out the muffler. Though it may be different on forced induction, for obvious reasons.

im not saying that the stock is better than an aftermarket one, maybe if someone was on a budget and just get the piping and leave a sleeper look.

so when i have my exhaust guys run the mid pipe should i have them run 2.25 or 2.5 because its going to be getting a k24a1 in the near future aswell??

I would run a 2.5 personally. You could look into the t1R midpipe as it's a really nice piece and has 63mm mandrel bent tubing.

that is specifically talking about the axleback. in response to what bificus said, that is the midpipe size not the axle back, if you'll notice the axle backs piping is 2.25 and it is obviously much larger than the midpipe sizing.

so if i wanted to keep the stock muffler and change the mid pipe. then the best mid pipe size would be 2.25 or 2.5?

2.25 or 2.5 would be fine.
2.25 would be cool cause you could just get the type s exhaust
