Looks Good, Buy Why Didint You Paint The Plug Opposite Of The Hazard Button?

thats what everybody asks, but i thought it made it look more "useful". people ask what that "button" does...plus i didnt paint the handles, etc. so i needed to leave small silver parts to match. so i thought. does it look dumb?

I agree. You should've also took off the radio face plate and the storage tray too.

yes i would but i plan on replacing my radio in the next few months... i agree it would look better having it all black, but why waste the paint.
Do you say that because it looks wierd or just half-ass

 Why does everyone always want people to have the exact same setup? I like the silver trim dude. It looks neither half-ass nor weird. Good call on not coloring the button.

I don't know about you, but after seeing the same pics all the time, it gets kinda boring.

well thank you, man. every one that have seen it says they like the silver "accent" pieces. which is fine with me, it meant my lack of effort did some good.
thanks for the input.

That black looks like a dead-on match.

Nice job.

I wouldn't say to paint the button just because people want it to look like theirs, but I think it would do a better job of hiding it rather than accenting it. I think you could still have the silver door handles (if I ever paint my dash I won't be painting handles). But my suggestion to complete the pimped out dash would be an S2000 engine start. Then the button really DOES do something :)

ya i have no need for the starter button... in a few weeks i will put another cigarette lighter w/ either cap or real lighter (although i dont smoke) to cover hole... its more functional in my situation.

thanks to you sir...
you wrote that yours does not scratch easily...
i am not sure about mine... although i havent really put it to the test, but when popping blank circle thing back in its hole it knicked a piece of paint about the size of the dot on this "i" off. kinda scared me.

What paint did you use? How many layers and other helpful info, I looks almost OEM, I want to do this!!!

Before I reinstalled mine, I beat the shit out of it...lol. I figure test it now and fix it before I reinstall it and have to pull it all back out.

When I did mine, I scuffed it up with some 1200 or 1600 grit pad, then wiped it down with some "Prep-All" degreaser. This pulls all the armor all and oils out the plastic.

I then sprayed a few gentle layers of SEM brand Adhesion Promotor. Maybe 3 layers with 10-20 minutes between each coat.

Then a few gentle layers of SEM brand Landau Black paint. I let it sit overnight in my garage before I put it back in.

6 months now and still not a scratch....

^ he knows... (: i think i used some "plastic cleaner" instead of prep all, it does the same thing though, removes oils, grease, wax, etc. then i wet sanded it with 1200 grit, followed by a washing with soap (that dawn dish soap thats ok to wash your car with) and rinsed it excessively... i let it dry, then i used the plastic cleaner again, rinsed it, hung it to dry in my garage. i used the same SEM products as VegaS10. just follow the directions on the cans. i think i put a very light coat of adhesion promotor, waited 5 mins and then put a wet coat of the promotor, waited 15 minutes and then put a light layer followed by a wet layer and then some of the landau black...
you should do it, the dash wasn't as hard as i thought it was going to be to get off.

oh and make sure you find your code to your radio (if you still have stock) before pulling apart.

good luck

You should paint it yellow and label it "EMERGENCY EJECT"!
All kidding aside, looks like you did a good job! I'd like to see it in person, the pics probably don't do it justice.

Nice job, it looks CLEAN. I was thinking about doing it myself. Has anyone tried the vinyl kit they sell on ebay? I wanted to see what it looks like installed.

haha that would be really funny. I painted mine shit black the other day and I am pretty unhappy about it. It was really windy outside and little peices of leaves and dirt kept blowing on it. I also get really impatient and tried to install it when it wasnt quite ready yet so it got a little scratched up. I used Krylon satin black and it would have been alright if I didnt mess it up but Landau black is definitely the way to go. I ordered a can of it on monday to redo it.

I suggest not painting your radio face like i did, you cant just buy the face from anywhere, you have to get the whole radio, which from the dealer costs like 600.00:meek:

Like shit. dont get it, dont even bother with the real CF overlays, they leave so much of the silver uncovered, waste of money and time

krylon sucks asshole!! pretty sure it probably stained the plastic too. it has dyes in it.

yeah and i would suggest taking your time and doing in a closed garage if possible...

you will be happy with the SEM brand...but i am sure it will still scratch if you dont let it dry completely

My dash was pretty much scratched up so I painted mine last week with Plasti Dip (http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip) and it looks great! it has a rubbery texture to it kinda like the OEM dash...

yeah it's a spray can... the plastic coating (along with any other sprays) will rub off if scratched deep enough..

your diy looks good from the pix too...

so far, nothing's peeled on the dash... I also used this plati dip stuff on my audi's grill... it's been almost a year and it still looks as good as new.. (see outer trimming of the grill.. it used to be chrome)
