View Full Version : Why is my alignment off?

When I went to get tires for the first time after the stockies went bald, the shop said that my alignment was off because the tires wore down more from the insides. I called to get a quote at an alignment shop and they asked me how my alignment could be off if my car was fairly new ('05) and it's not lowered. Then I wondered myself the same question. The only guess I can think of is that since I bought the car with 7k, maybe it was lowered before and the previous owner had set the alignment according to the drop?

Hmm... that's weird. I also have that problem with my rear driver side tire. I have pretty new proxes up front and dunlops in the back. The passanger side dunlop is fine, but my side is nearly bald from the inside.... the outside still has a a lot of tread.

stock car has no camber adjustment as well...toe in or out will cause abnormal wear, this was the first lesson i learned when i was 16, inside was balding and i didnt notice, had to replace 2 bridgestone potenzas, learned the hard way...your toe was off...very simple

Since you bought it used, I bet it had a aftermarket suspension, they removed it,installed the stock suspension and traded the car in.

He, he. Yeah I was wondering if when I put my tein's in, the toe would correct itself. My luck though, it would get worse lol.

You have to align it after putting in the Tein's so yeah.

couldn't possibly be potholes or road bumps, that never happens

Nor could it be worn out bushings....

1St thing to check if it were me would be the suspension bushings.

LoLz!

Or the fact that when cars get transported to dealers, they are strapped down to the trucks so tight that it messes with the alignment (I've seen that happen @ the Acura dealership I used to work for).

But yeah, given that the stock alignment specs are so wide in range from one end to the other, I wouldn't doubt that it came that way straight off the assembly line...

Yeah that's very possible too. The thing is, I drive like a grandma over railroad tracks, ramps, etc. And I memorized where all the potholes are on my commute to work. I actually got about 45k on the stock tires, so before that shop told me about my alignment, I thought the slight neg. camber from the stock alignment was the reason. Isn't there like 1/32 toe in in too, with the stock alignment?

Oh, and my avatar is a photochop btw. Hopefully s-techs will make my car look similar to that.

If you bought it used, the previous owner probably hit a curb or median or something.
